This was the day we travelled to Southampton and won 3-2. This was a great win and put us 3rd in league 1 which was our highest position that we had been in since 1999 - 10 years prior to the saints game. Shows we were 3rd and saints bottom (due to their points deduction). We were then 23 points clear of the saints after that win. Our decline then started. We still ended up at a respectable 11th top half finish but the saints ended up 11 points above rovers gaining 34 points on us after our victory over them. End of that season we got rid of Lennie. Big mistake that proved to be now. Following season we ended up relegated sacking Trolls, Paterson, Penney and ended up with Campbell. We finished on minus 34 goal difference which was the worse in league. Then Buckle joined us start of last season and we all know what happened there. From the night of 29/09/09 to today 08/12/12 - 3rd in league 1 to 23rd in league 2 in the space of 3 years. For me we never been the same since this night at St Marys. When was it for you when it all went wrong? Why do you think it went wrong?

I know I sound like a broken record sometimes but it's got to be down to Mr Higgs. If you remember Lennie left in May 2010 but he had been working his notice so if that was six months he was given it in November 2009. Mr Higgs said he was shocked by what the players were earning so I'm guessing he told Lennie we couldn't carry on like that and Lennie said if you want Rovers to stay in league 1 and challenge for the championship that's what you've got to pay. So they fell out and Lennie left and it's been downhill ever since. Lennie has been proved to be right with players like Blizzard, Williams, Regan, Wright & Hughes all still playing in league 1 and look where we are. The stupid thing is Mr Higgs said he wouldn't be paying out big wages and long contracts again and then he does the exact opposite by bringing in Clarkson, Kenneth and Parkes and he even offers shed loads of money to Constable as well. We need someone like Lennie back again and keep Mr Higgs away from the football team and we might have a chance.
The strange thing about that side is that many of those players we let go because 'they weren't doing it for us'...Regan, Anthony, Lescott, Coles, Wright, Dickson, Reece, Swallow, Duffy, Kuffour........... Are we better off without them? Are their replacements taking us to a better place? I really just do not understand this at all!
