Since their relegation last term the Shrews have made a solid start to life in the fourth tier of English football, they currently occupy sixth spot in the league table having accrued 15 points from 9 games with 4 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses. Last time out in this competition Shrewsbury knocked out Premier League Leicester City in their own back yard, a remarkable result which proves that tomorrow's match will be no easy ride for the Canaries. please log in to view this image In form City striker Cameron Jerome who has netted 6 times in 5 games for the Canaries Shrewsbury go into this game on the back of a home league draw as do Norwich, they battled out a 0-0 stalemate with Newport County while Norwich were once again the 'comeback kings' when they overturned a 2-0 half time deficit to end the game on level terms courtesy of another brace from in form striker Cameron Jerome. please log in to view this image Andy Mangan celebrates his winner for the Shrews at the King Power Stadium Current form Shrewsbury Town: LLLWD Norwich City: WDWWD Match History The Shrews and the Canaries have mostly played in different divisions throughout history and subsequently have met only 20 times in league competition. Norwich have the upper hand with 15 wins (9 at home and 6 away), there have been 2 drawn matches with the Shrews managing just 3 victories in total. The two have met twice before in the League Cup, Shrewsbury won the first meeting 1-0 in the fourth round in 1960. The other clash was a first-round match over two legs in 1980 - and Norwich came through 3-1 on aggregate. Since then, they have met four times in the old Division Two and Norwich have won all four matches. The sides first met in September 1951 in a League Division Three (South) encounter at Carrow Road, the Canaries winning by 3 goals to 2. Norwich's biggest winning margin in this fixture is an 8-1 drubbing again in League Division Three (South) a year later in 1952, this is also the Canaries best away victory. The Shrews managed a 6-0 thrashing of the Canaries in August 1955 once again in the third tier. Absolutely." please log in to view this image Adams insists he and his staff will leave nothing to chance for a tie in which they want to triumph. “It’s important for us, it gives us opportunity for one or two players who need minutes to have a run-out, but the priority is to win the game,” he said. “It’s a dream for situation for a team. They’ve got an opportunity to go and claim another scalp. They’ve already beaten Blackpool and Leicester, so that in itself tells you that they mean business. Excellent stuff KIO. I'll be following the game on-line in my hotel in Heathrow in readiness for my holiday. Hoping we progress, so that we have the chance to give some of our fringe players more game time.
Good preview. We've had a few very good results this season including beating Blackpool and Leicester in the other cup. We have recently had a less than satisfactory few games, we play better against passing teams than lower league bully squads. We will put out a first team standard squad but this might feature some of our fringe players such as Liam Lawrence in midfield. I guess we'll either play 352 or 433 featuring more than two attack minded players. Hope anyone who makes the trip has a good time bar the result.
Well done KIO, another 5 star effort, and thanks for the good wishes Matster, hope we can still be friends after the game!
I've always looked at league cup games as a bit of a distraction or hassle from the main task of promotion (or survival in the PL). This year however with our squad I can't help but feel we've got a chance to really go for it in the cups without hindering our chances in the league. Great chance to get Hooper and Howson back into the team and really want to see what Odjidja can do. If by some miracle I get a stream for this game, i'll be listening out for a Grant Holt song too.
Excellent preview. The result really depends on the kind of team Norwich put out. Shrewsbury have generally faired better against footballing teams this season and I would assume that Norwich are one. Probably, therefore, a close call with Norwich winning by the odd goal. Good to see that you are travelling with 1000. Most upper league supporters couldn't give a toss about this competition.
2.45 mate - 6 hours here, this time of year. For a LC 3rd round game, I cannot generate the enthusiasm. Give me a nudge in the QF's
These threads are better than the BBC and SKY efforts KIO you could maybe turn this into a career of some sort. Brilliant stuff
So much for playing the youths! Rudd; Whittaker (c), Cuellar, Miquel, Garrido; Odjidja, O'Neil, Howson, E Bennett; Lafferty, Hooper. Ruddy (GK), Loza, Josh Murphy, McFadden, Toffolo, McGrandles, King. Few on the bench, but that's a strong starting XI. Guessing we're 4-1-2-3 with Howson and Odjidja given license to go forwards, and Lafferty and Bennett in wider positions?
Strong side. Better to put out a good team and win the game in the 1st half then give others a chance. Often sides mix it up and it costs them. Depends how seriously you want to take it, plus we have a big squad and these players will want matches.
That's a statement If ever I saw one. This is an entirely changed team and I would be confident going into a a lot of Championship games with that (Maybe not the CBs). I really hope it is 4-3-3 as I think that's the formation these players are crying out for. I'm really happy with this line up! And to be fair, the bench is entirely yougsters. Clearly Adams wants to win the game first then give a few a run out.
Be interesting to hear anything he's got to say about his time under Hughton, and whether he did have a serious illness.
