Mafia new game sign up thread

Hi all.

in order to give some time to host a NEW game of mafia this thread is to move conversation about rules over and for people to sign up.

Please indicate you want to join clearly or i may miss you. (as in don't be shy say i'm in!!!!!)


Proposed rules:


1) If you're not in the game and are posting it will get deleted if i think its disruptive and giving actual voting input, ghostly voices from the dead will have some leeway: but not much.


2) Once you're dead you may post one eulogy post- ham it up all you like but after that otherwise dead people shouldn't really talk but the big rule is don't seek to influence the game by giving clues and hints.

3) The only group allowed to PM each other are the mafia. anyone can PM the gamesmaster (me this time). you are expected if you sign up to clear your inbox an/or sent so that you can ALL accept 20/30 pms during game

4) Day 1 will start at 8pm Sunday (if we get 10 or more names). Night 1 falls on Monday 8pm GMT. I plan one round every 24 hours to make this a mostly week day game. night owls can read the days events, and get first comments. day workers can dodge work. i suggest all try to get on from 7pm to 8pm to check thier votes


5) Night cycle:

a) The police will raid the house of whomever got most votes and that person will be dragged in front of the judge who will find them guilty and execute them.... He's from texas.. what can i say he believes in a speedy trial.
b) The mafia never stand still and have been using their cash to bribe and order hits. Once the police have gone home the mafia can act, they may kill or they may make someone a made man. they will only get one convert and one kill order per game. Only the don can pass the orders
c) A lone paranoid lizard fearing towns person will be creeping about at 3am, if they go nuts they can kill one person then vanish leaving another dead body to be cleared up. The vigilante has one kill per game. There will be one proviso here, if the vigilante is recruited by mafia he loses his kill ability
d) Just before dawn the teams on stake out will spot their targets. One (at least) towns investigator and one mafia investigator will be told the results of their investigations. But remember sitting in cars at night in this city is risky so if they get whacked they can't find out anything can they?
e) any reported outbreak of ebola will occur
f) At dawn the wunter under meijer newspaper will report goings on for all to "read all about it" it will be specific " execution = your votes, mafia actions will be called out, vigilante kill if one occurs will be clear)


5) Please BOLD who you are voting for. You may change your mind at any time- but I will only count what you write in bold. Please also specify reason for the vote- round 1 this can be hard because it is all random and no clues to go on, but reading peoples reasons for a vote can be revealing. Not posting a reason could be construed as "guilty".

"Random Vote" or "Revenge because you voted for me" are acceptable reasons in round 1 but not after that.

6) If you have a special role PLEASE bank an action via pm with me. if you do have a special role please do try to at least read for the last 10 mins of day and get the best out of your action.


7) Roles:

There will be one Mafia Don (who can order order one assassination or one convert)
There will be one Mafia Investigator (can do one investigation a night to try and find the townsfolk detective)
The number of additional Mafia depends on number of people who sign up. if there is enough a bodyguard may be assigned

There will be one town detective (can do one investigation a night to try and find the Mafia)
There will be one vigilante (can stalk and kill one person in the game)

Roles will be assigned randomly using random number generator. role assignment shall be Don first, investigators next, ordinary mafia, vigilante.

IF you get a role you will get a pm, i will force it though somehow. if you don't you are a townie. please don't ask who got a pm or where my pm in game. if you are unsure pm me.

8) There will be a chance that one person per round gets struck down by a case of ebola and will miss their chance at voting due to being in hospital bleeding out their rectum. They will return fully cured for the following round. The function of this chance is for the games master to discipline anyone thought seriously to be messing during the round This will be determined AFTER all other nightly activity occurs.

9) final rule = enjoy. its only for fun. everyone is expected to lie, cheat and steal... nobody is innocent but its no reflection on anyone outside of game.

Just to check: Nightfall is 8pm GMT and so 9pm BST?

 

so to solve this yeah 8pm as in

it is now 4:30pm.... my time... you check the time of my post and compare.

nozzer you prob see 3:30 so that means you see night at 7pm you time. everyone else sees night at 8pm and milk being est sees night time fall at 3pm his time (please contradict if wrong)

 

Sounds right... so an hour earlier than Mafia 1 nighttime.

In a nutshell- mafia is this:
Everyone is randomly assigned an identity. For the majority you're just innocent townspeople.
The rest are Mafia (or special townspeople roles).

The idea of the Mafia is to take over the town. The idea of the Townspeople is to eliminate the mafia.

You do this in two ways.

1) Each day people will vote who they think is the mafia (look for clues in how they vote- mafia won't vote for other mafia) Person with most votes each day will be executed.
2) Mafia may have the ability to convert or kill townspeople one a night. (sometimes special townspeople have this ability to)

Best way to learn is by playing- it sounds more complicated then it is.

In the early rounds you have little to go on- so who you vote out is dumb luck. Later though, you should have evidence based on voting patterns. For example Mafia won't usually vote to execute fellow Mafia (at least not if the vote is close) - they might vote for each other if they're not expecting to win the vote- to make themselves look more innocent.
