Dangerous ground here so apoligies to all who may be effected by this thread. It is simply a question and not an attempt to cause anguish. So. Suarez is gone and you have a pot of money. You are seemingly hoovering up players in the 10-20milluin bracket and adding depth. Do you feel we will see a more balanced liverpool or are you to go the way of spurs and struggle to settle and lack that finishing touch?
Four differences 1. Ayre is not levy and so he's not making up his own list of players of FIFA 14 2. Rodgers is in season 3, we assume they are his picks so unlike avb who fully admitted they were not his we have a clear game plan and a manager motivated to bring players into that system 3. We cannot replace Suarez at 31 goal and 10+ assists, it's that simple but lfc are aiming not for 80+ points but 70+ and so consistency is required 4. Finally sturridge is the man now
Going by todays papers we will be getting Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba. One player who snubbed united and another who walked. Enjoy your frosties this morning and dont choke on them
Only when the season kicks off can that be judged During pre season last year most were drooling over Spurs business during the window, only to realise that (Eriksen aside) they signed a collection of mules when the season got under way
wouldn't say drooling lol, but i thought they had done good business, didnt realize at the time that the manager never had an input, and always dodgy ground clubs buying players manager hasn't asked for personally as they tend not to want to play them so lose any form they may have had.
He only came out with that horse **** after he was canned, of course he had an input. You lot were heavily linked with Soldado and on paper the others looked like good signings
Fair question UiR... hopefully losing our big name works out better than it did for them. Rodgers is a better manager than AVB will ever be though so think he'll have it covered tactically and keep our free flowing attacking style from last season albeit hopefully with some kind of defensive strategy now in place. AVB's shortcomings in man management and tactics were a major reason for Spurs' problems after last season's window, even though his league win percentage was very good and they'd won all their Europa games. And yes before you say it, we all know Rodgers has yet to be tested in Europe.
I think he'll thrive on being the main man. He was in good scoring form Early when Suarez was out and seems like the kind of player that loves that extra pressure.
is a good thread and poses lots of interesting questions. hindsight is a wonderful thing but a lot of people thought spurs done well with who they brought and it didn't work out,too many foreign players in at once, need time to adapt as first season in prem etc, guess we will see where they are at this season as they have a better manager now, most thought when we sold Torres and had £50 mill and wasted it that we had squandered our only chance to really strengthen the team, now we have that opportunity again and hopefully this time wont **** it up. spurs were a better team with bale than all the money they got, and we will probably be the same with luis, although dif circumstances in selling between the 2, but both clubs fans i should imagine would rather have kept the player than all the money, although like i said dif for us as Luis was probably on the verge of a lifetime ban from the fa and we couldn't afford to take the risk. not sure how the money is being spent, but i think at the mo we have strengthened the bench and got some for the future with a lot of potential, now hopefully we will be looking for that 1 or 2 class players for first team. whether we get them or not or waste the money again, well time will tell, but i am not overly concerned just yet.
We are abviously going about our business way better than Spurs for the reasons already posted, but for fun here is a direct comparisons of the buys Striker Penberto Loldado (£25.8m) vs Lambert (£4m) and Remy (£8m) Lambert offers hold-up play and assists while Remy has pace. Both are already proven effective in the PL. They are used to add depth and options to support our established striker Sturridge, whereas Penberto was expected to come to a new league and instantly replace the goals of Bale. Verdict: #epic fail by Spurs Winger Lamela (£25.8m) and Chadli (£7m) vs Markovic (£20m) Markovic is a very exciting prospect and even if he does literally nothing he will be better value than the non-existent Lamela and crap Chadli Verdict: #epic fail by Spurs Attacking midfielder Eriksen (£11m) vs Lallana (£25m) Spurs got a good player at a good price. We have paid a high price but Lallana was in the PL team of the year and fits our system perfectly. Verdict: Spurs win on #value Defensive midfielder Paulinho (£17m) vs Can (£10m) Paulinho seemed like a decent buy but was unlucky to get Charlie Adam'd. Can could be fantastic and is much cheaper. Verdict: Not much in it so far Defender Capoue (£8.6m) and Chiriches (£8.5m) vs ? Spurs bought cheap players who haven't done much. We still have 1.5 months to improve on what they did. If we buy Lovren and Moreno we would have spent a lot more than them but they will be far more effective. Verdict: Spurs win by default for now
We had to strengthen the squad anyway, the Suarez money is there if a top quality player becomes available. I think we would have bought the same players that we have so far even if Suarez had stayed. So we haven't blown the money (yet) depending on what happens next we either continue to compete within that top 4 or some of these signings don't work and we drop out. As always I'm looking forward to the season and will believe we can win it until a time comes that it's obvious we can't. (hopefully that moment will be at least after xmas)
Remy and lambert will get you 20 goals between them i suppose. Referring to astroturfnauts post. Does the lack of any defensive signings concern you? Lovrens is one you are linked with but i would have thought defence would be high on the list. Plenty of time still.
The players and their standing in tge game dont alwats mean a good or bad signing. Take united in 2009 for example. Sell ronaldo and replace him with who? Valencia and owen . 3 titles, champuons league final followed. Just shows how bad spurs were really.
I think Lovren is essential other than that Enrique fit makes a difference and Flanagan will continue to improve. Flanagan Skrtel Lovren Enrique That's pretty good and with Agger and Kelly there's both experienced cover and a promising youngster at centre back. I'd be happier if we got Lovren and 1 other though and would bite at any good bid for Skrtel.
Oh yeah forgot, also Toure but I think he'll go. I'm one of the few that needs convincing with Sakho, not sure on him at all.
yeah i agree with you, i am not convinced on him either, but i couldn't be having you put him behind Kelly lol.
