With the celebrations in BS3 today (following a great season winning promotion and should shortly be named champions as well), and the hopefully celebrations in BS7 to come soon, lets all take a step back today and remember the 96 people, which included children, who went to a football game and never went home. April 15th 1989 shook the world and devasted many. Since this dreadful day, the loved ones of those who lost their lives have been involved in a constant battle seeking JUSTICE. And they are still waiting. Can you imagine being in their shoes right now? Losing a parent or grandparent... A brother or sister... A son or daughter... An aunt or uncle... A neice or nephew... Or perhaps a loved one, AND the lies and cover ups about what happened which has gone on for TWENTY SIX YEARS. Could you battle for as long at the these loved ones have? Please spare a thought today for those who we have sadly lost, not just at Hillsborough but anywhere in the world of football. Please spare a thought today for their loved ones who seen them leave home to watch a football match and never returned. Please take time today and look at your loved ones and be grateful for what you have because you just never know when the next disaster will happen. I hope this is the year where JUSTICE is found. Where the ones we have lost can actually rest IN peace and their loved ones can actually rest WITH peace. Thank you for reading. please log in to view this image
Well said and fine words CJS....26 years, a whole generation As a big Rangers man this hit home to me in 1989 , as my beloved Ibrox had had not one but 3 disasters, the worst in '71 when 66 fans perished on Stairway 13, i can remember the shock in my boyhood home as the news trickled in. So listening on the radio as it unfolded at Hillsborough that day i just sat in silence and disbelief that it had happened yet again. The fact those families and friends of the lost have waited all this time has made it even worse, while they should have had the chance to mourn their relatives they have not only had to fight for justice but also put up with some terrible accusations. With the outrageous reports coming about Valley Parade today i hope it is only coincidence because if someone did start that fire deliberately or for insurance purposes there won't be a penalty that fits his crime. But overall my lasting feelings are for the people we lost and for their families whether they were at Ibrox, Bradford or Hillsborough as well as other stadiums where similar has occurred.
