Not a bad squad in my opinion! Just needs one more defender on top of Pieters and Roux coming in and we will have a decent squad! Be positive...

 

No all U21s are exempt from mandatory squad registration and can still play.

 

Nah, not having a go... It's just the thread seams to be meant in a negative way but having a young squad shouldnt. If theyre good enough/hungry enough for success then thats all that matters. I know i'd certainly rather play Vuckic, Sammy, Abeid or Ferguson than Smith, Campbell, Kuqi, etc...

 

I disagree, it only really looks grim up front. Our midfield even without Barton looks good. It was clear last night we needed a striker when Best and Lovenkrands proved they have worse aim than a darts player with parkinsons.

 

Just trying to identify who we had mate not really negative or positive

 

I think it's decent.

Goalkeepers:
As long as this injury to Harper isnt one thats going to keep flaring up throughout the season, then they're pretty sorted. If it does though, im not sure what Soderberg is like to be able to stand in for Krul.

Defenders:
If we bring in Pieters as it seams we're going to, then he'll be covered by Ferguson (although not ideal, but its alright) and then beyond that you're looking at Taylor/Simmo again. On the right, id like a new right back to replace Simpson as i dont think all that yet. Backs off too much and never seams to put tackles in. He'll do for now, but i dont think hes right for long term.
Centre back cover is where we have a problem i think. Taylor and Coloccini are great. Williamson is a decent back up, but nowhere near the levels of those two and Kadar just seams to have gone AWOL. Does anyone know where he is? We need a centre back for cover... IS Situ the answer?

Midfield:
I think everyone knows this is our strongest area. I dont think we're troubled for wingers, but our system HAS to change whenever Tiote is injured or suspended. Especially since letting Barton go, we really dont have any tough players in the middle of the park unless you play... Smith I suppose youd get away with Cabaye, Gosling, Vuckic for the odd game if needed though.

Strikers:
...Urgh. We just need someone we can really on to be consistent. Best gets into positions and works hard, but his accuracy has been awful lately. Shola, is Shola. Ba's first touch has looked terrible so far and hes went about things way too sluggish. Lovenkrands is just another body. Sammy isnt ready for the big stage yet. Need a striker.

 

This. Whenever Tiote is injured/suspended/ACON, I would like to see us play Marveaux and Cabaye in the middle as they looked good together last night. If we are playing the top teams though, maybe play Gosling instead of Marveaux to make it more solid defensively.

 

Need to get 4 in really, defence looks short there if we get injuries and obviously LB and striker
