Does this rule still apply? If so when does it have to be submitted and who would be in it?

I seem to remember that there had to be so many "homegrown" players and those under a certain age didn't count.

    Any ideas?

I was thinking that with our new recruits we might be able to trim a bit of chaff. I'm hoping, probably forlornly, that Diao will face the chop along with Tonge and Mama. I would have said Soares too, but I was quite pleased with the way he played recently and we are distinctly lacking in the wing areas should either of Pennant and Etherington become injured (acknowledging that Walters can play there too).

I thinks it today! I am pretty sure that under 21's are exempt and the "homegrown" rule is a bit vague!

If a player is named in the squad and are then loaned out to a lower league club, that player can not be replaced in the original squad - until the next transfer window!

I'm not sure about Mama - he was included last time even though he was still heavily injured!

    I think the squad will be;
Begovic, Higgy, Huth, Shawx, Woody, Upson, Whelan, Soars, Jones, Wilson, Pugh, Pennant, Whitehead, Walters, Delap, Ethrington, Nash, Wilko, Sorenson,Shotton, Jerome, Palacious, Crouch, Fuller - thats 24.

Diao, Mama, Arismendi, Tongue, Collins for the remaining place!

I had a feeling it was today.

I'd go for Arismendi for the last spot.

I'd be very surprised if he leaves Diao out, so that would be Soares who would miss out as I can't see any of the others going out on loan.

TONY PULIS has today handed his long-term injury victims a major boost by including them in a 25-man squad submitted to the Premier League following the closure of the transfer window earlier this week.

Defender Danny Higginbotham and strike pair Ricardo Fuller and Mamady Sidibe are all named in Stoke City's squad for the first half of the season as their rehabilitation from serious injuries reaches an advanced stage.

Higginbotham is recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury while Fuller and Sidibe have been sidelined by ruptured Achilles tendons, but all three players are within sight of a return to action in the near future.

The squad also includes the three transfer deadline day signings Peter Crouch, Wilson Palacios and Cameron Jerome.

Pulis' decision to omit a number of fringe players from his 25-man squad including Danny Pugh and Danny Collins reflects his desire to allow them to gain the regular first team football elsewhere by going out on loan.

City's manager has also taken the bold step of leaving England defender Jonathan Woodgate out of his Europa League squad, having insisted that the Club will manage his fitness carefully following an injury troubled time.

Although Woodgate made his Potters debut in the Europa League win at Hadjuk Split last month, he will now focus on the Premier League in the coming months as he looks to build upon a successful start to his time at the Britannia Stadium in which he has played an influential role in the unbeaten start to the season.

A 23-man squad has been submitted to UEFA for the Group Stages of the Europa League with Sidibe the other player to miss out.

Premier League Squad: Diego Arismendi, Asmir Begovic, Peter Crouch, Rory Delap, Salif Diao, Matthew Etherington, Ricardo Fuller, Danny Higginbotham, Robert Huth, Cameron Jerome, Kenwyne Jones, Carlo Nash, Wilson Palacios, Jermaine Pennant, Ryan Shawcross, Ryan Shotton, Mamady Sidibe, Thomas Sorensen, Matthew Upson, Jonathan Walters, Glenn Whelan, Dean Whitehead, Andy Wilkinson, Marc Wilson, Jonathan Woodgate.

Europa League Squad: Diego Arismendi, Asmir Begovic, Peter Crouch, Rory Delap, Salif Diao, Matthew Etherington, Ricardo Fuller, Danny Higginbotham, Robert Huth, Cameron Jerome, Kenwyne Jones, Carlo Nash, Wilson Palacios, Jermaine Pennant, Ryan Shawcross, Ryan Shotton, Thomas Sorensen, Matthew Upson, Jonathan Walters, Glenn Whelan, Dean Whitehead, Andy Wilkinson, Marc Wilson.

Pugh surprises me, but Diao and Sidibe don't, they only disappoint!

I'm not suprised that Sidibe and Diao are included - I'm disgusted! I love Sidibie but he has never been good enough fro the Prem and being the 6th choice striker and 3rd choice for the target man, coming back from 12 months with a double recurring injury is a joke! In fact, it is embarrasing and something TP does time and time again because certain players are "smashing blokes" who "work ard" and "do alot for charity"! Its a disgrace that much better footballers lose out to such dross!

I am shocked that Pugh has been left out, he is one of the most flexible players we have and is perfect for sqaud/bench rotation! TP strikes again!

Yes, I am surprised and disappointed that Pugh is not in the squads. He played (and scored) in the away leg in Switzerland and has always done a good job coming off the bench. He is a decent chap and never seems to complain. A strange decision!

Sidibe and Diao still in the squad is pure madness. Mamma is done and was never prem material and to leave out Danny Pugh is madness as he can play anywhere. Not fussed about Collins though and over the moon about that to be honest.

Anyone up for kidnapping Diao and Mamma??

I can understand that this squad allows Pugh and Collins to go out on loan but I would have thought you could make more of a difference between your Premier squad and your Europa squad than this to try and give several players a chance (incl Pugh) and others a rest. Seems strange to take your 25 man Premier squad and just remove 2 or is that the rules for Europa? Can that squad only comprise of players in your Premier squad?

I cant understand WHY you would name 6 strikers in both your squads, especially as it will probably take both Fuller and Sidibe till Xmas to get match fit. Surely they should have been omitted from the squad and sent out on loan to get their sharpness and fitness and see whether they could then make a positive impact on the team? Crazy! Anyway, rant over and lets get behind who ever he names and plays!
