Right people, lend me your ears And your shrill voices as well, How many of each group this year Will Hughton want under his spell Not particularly thinking of names More just what the balance should be, Between those in the striking game And those who´re used defensively Straight away we lose the three For keepers, as less wouldn´t do, Or would it, as it seems to me Sometimes we could manage with two Could four strikers too, be enough Instead of the five we´re used to, And can we find room where it´s tough In midfield, for all those on view It would seem a good starting place To have eight defenders I´d say, Each full-back covered with a brace While four battle the CB fray With maximum fifteen spots then Still open, just how should we punt, Should midfield have eight, nine or ten Or should we fill up at the front A fifth striker does seem to me If we can score from midfield too, To sometimes be a luxury But useful to add to the brew And with many players these days Playing more than just the one role, It will, I´m sure have a big say In who ends in Chris Hughton´s fold But number-wise I´d be happy With two keepers, nine at the back, Then nine to make the midfield spree With finally, five in attack But one thing´s for sure, there´ll be some Of that band of Canary men, Out there in the Austrian sun Who´ll not be involved once again. Hi RBF, you have highlighted one of many reasons I would not want to manage a football team! Whichever way you choose, if it goes wrong you regret not going another way! The biggest problem is unexpected long-term injuries, it means you have to be a soothsayer!
Be interesting to see just how he arranges the final 25-man squad, Dave, but I have often wondered why more teams don´t cut down to only two keepers, thereby opening up one more outfield place. No doubt if we tried it, one of them would break a leg in the 1st match of the season
Brilliant as usual RBF! Certainly helps that only one spot will be taken by a 'keeper as Rudd and Steer are under 21 but that will change in January as I believe Rudd turns 21 between the two squad registration dates. Same would apply for Adeyemi and K Smith I believe!
Had actually forgotten that Rudd was still under 21, how sometimes time doesn´t fly. Still fancy Hughton will have some thinking to do, to find the best balance in the final 25.
According to Wikipedia (i know, i know) Rudd is 21 now, which I think means he needs to be registered.
