The Crewe result has obviously spurred players and fans alike into taking stock of our current league position and how we can maintain our league status.Simon Walton in the press today describes it as "crunch time" to turn things around and a "time to look in the mirror".There is now a call on fans forums to seriously consider bringing in an experienced manager and for Brent to spend money in the January window.Seems like there is a bringing together right now from all parties that something needs to happen differently to what has gone before. But is it too late?
We probably need around 30 points from that total so have to win the equivelent of 10 games between now and the end of the season. We haven't managed anywhere near that in the first half and the next few games look to be very hard. If something is going to be done then it has to be now doesn't it. No good waiting for 10 matches left and needing to win them all. Not necessarily too late for me but getting very late.
These predictions are very well but unless you go through every teams's fixtures it's meaningless and even if you do, highly prone to error. We have tougher games coming up but our rivals will also have tough games AND will be playing each other - and they can't both take 3 points from those games. The fact of the matter is though that we have just had a run of games which, on paper, were relatively easy ones against teams in the bottom third. It's true Purse was absent at a crucial time, but we didn't do anything like well enough to think we now have a clear advantage on those around us. Since we started well behind the pack, we NEED a clear advantage to get clear and so there are more grounds for worry than for optimism.
Alright lads, in the Premier League its usually the magical 40 point mark where safety is achieved - what's the equivalent total you're aiming for?
50 is the usual rule of thumb but I have a feeling it will be less in this league this season. But, 50 to be sure.
