Eng let down by their senior players, Salt and Buttler particularly, Brook to a lesser extent. Not just in this match but the whole competition.

I'm usual pretty critical of England but India away in any format never mind a semi final at a full ground in their favourite form of the game is about as hard as it gets. Thought they did alright and just glad they made a game of it.

Still think McCullum and Key should go for the Ashes debacle alone mind you.

a new first-class record has been set in a current plunket shield match in new zealand.

there are two days to play and two have already been played.

central districts scored 373.

northern districts atttempted to respond but ran into bother.

bowler brett randell opened the attack and two runs came off his first over.

he bowled a wide during his next over, but nothing else happened until he took a wicket with the final delivery.

five runs were added in the next over.

randell returned and

took a wicket with his first ball

and another with his second, giving him a hat-trick (though this looks iffy on video)

and he took another with his third

and he took another with his fourth.

that meant he had taken five in five, something never achieved in the entire history of first-class cricket.

the next two deliveries cost four byes.

this gave him figures of 3-1-2-5

in his fourth over, he took a wicket first ball, giving him 6 wickets from 8 deliveries. nobody else has done this.

four balls later, he got another. seven off 12. he ended the over with figures of 4-1-4-7.

and that was it. he ended with 11-1-25-7.

northern districts recovered a little, with a 52 stand taking them from 15/7 to 67/8 but they were all out for 82 and followed on.

the follow on began badly with bowler raymond toole snaffling four wickets (and taking 4/3 to begin with) to put northern districts at 26/4 before a fight-back helped them end the day on162/5, still 129 behind. randell hasn't yet bagged a second innings wicket.
