1. PL None of the significant KPIs very common for a PL team that finishes in the top 4 were met, so no objective surprise that Spurs did not finish so. Goal diversity : scoring was no different to last season, while assists were slightly lower. A key point of note is that the departure of Kane had no real effect on the Spurs attack. 2. Season compass Like for like with 2022-23 : Pts = +6, GF = +4, GA = -2, clean sheets = -3, W = +2, D = 0, L = -2 3. Style of play Much more entertaining than last season. The inward moving FBs and the "pivot trap" were a novel introduction and works quite well. However once opponents worked out the latter (specifically not venturing into it) , the Spurs play did too often venture into Portu-ball. 4. Cups League Cup : R2. FA cup : R3. A poor showing in the domestic cups. The League cup was a significant failing by the manager on team selection (no fixture congestion so strongest starting XI should have been used) . In the FA cup the opponent was Citeh, but given Spurs record against them at new WHL etc it was a very poor performance.
Season compass (analysis) : 1. The goals against / clean sheets measures declined after that game against vermin FC, hitting the troughs at week 27 2. The goals for measure slumped from week 27 to season end 3. As did the pts measure, but more gradually. Given that week 27 is the start of the final third of the season (ie the "business end" ) , this is where manager and squad evidently failed.
