Maybe I should have put up Competition in the title. Feel free to add it Ron.

I will take the final selections only after the closing date. So feel free to edit up until then.

Some clarification

Top NH trainer and top Flat trainer are the usual UK top trainers

The sires are those defined by the UK and Ireland results, not global and is from the position at the end of the Turf year.

Flat jockey as defined by the current BHA rules

2000 Guineas - Herculean

I love Herculean (as he’s a full brother to Fair Eva, what a lovely name for a filly by the way, and trained in the county) but my fear re him and the Guineas is that if Expert Eye (in the same ownership) is deemed fit and well then he will be sent elsewhere. There were hints that towards the backend of last term they had similar targets but each and every time Expert Eye was given precedence (in the end Herculean picked up a slight injury so was proved irrelevant anyway in the end).

Herculean is probs the horse that I’m looking forward to most in 2018 but it must be a huge uncertainty as to the route connections are going to take. I note he’s also now got quotes re The Derby. But considered him dam, African Rose, won the 6 furlong Haydock Sprint Cup Herculean staying double that distance must be a huge doubt.

As I won’t look at Cheltenham until the week in March, the selected plodders are total guess work (although I did back Sizing John last year).

Not sure how we can come up with the St Leger winner as it is likely to be one of Gosden’s that will debut at Chelmsford in February (... could put it as Dark Horse if we knew the name).

Just nitpicking: Why the Queen Anne not the Sussex? Why the Golden Jubilee not the July Cup? Royal Ascot not all-aged. Nothing in August... how do you propose to score the Scandal and Dark Horse categories?

Champion Hurdle: Buveur D'Air
Two Mile Champion Chase: Altior
World Hurdle: Penhill (tragically, my original choice is no more)
Triumph Hurdle: Apples Shakira
Cheltenham Gold Cup: Sizing John
Grand National: Vincente
2000 Guineas: Expert Eye
1000 Guineas: Clemmie (will get beaten on the Monday at odds-on in Ireland like Found, such is my luck with Ballydoyle)
Oaks: Winter Lightning (should I have put this maiden as my Dark Horse?)
Derby: Family Tree (if Saxon Warrior is not a superstar, Ballydoyle will have half a dozen in it)
Golden Jubilee Stakes: Harry Angel
Ascot Gold Cup: Stradivarius
Queen Anne Stakes: Le Brivido (if Winx travels she will go for the Prince of Wales’s vs Cracksman)
Eclipse Stakes: Expert Eye
King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes: Enable
St Leger: Kew Gardens (Moore will be on the favourite and the Zetland winner won’t be it)
Arc de Triomphe: Enable
Champion NH Trainer: Nicky The Needle
Champion Flat Jockey: Sylvestre De Sousa
Champion Flat Trainer: John Gosden
Champion Sire (stakes won): Nathaniel
Champion New Sire (stakes won): War Command
Scandal of 2018 (person or horse): Bryony Frost will turn out to be Nicky The Needle’s love child
Dark Horse of 2018 Flat Season (has not won before 15th January 2018): First Eleven (Frankel half-brother to Kingman, 0-3 as a two year old, has Zenda thrown another dud or a slow learner?)

I picked these without looking at what everyone else had posted but I now see that many of us have six or seven selections in common, so this might come down to Champion New Sire! Who would have picked Enable last January? We could all be wrong with the flat...
