2018-19 season stats for Charlton Athletic (updated 6 May)

2nd March update;

Doncaster Rovers 1-1 Charlton Athletic

It was important not to lose to Doncaster, as that would have weakened Charlton's position in the top 6.
But failure to beat them makes the task of finishing 4th or 3rd (and so securing a second leg play-off semi-final at home) a lot more difficult.
Scoring goals still seems to be our problem, as it has been since Taylor saw red and Grant was sold.

A great turn-out by the Charlton fans though today, well over 1,000 making the long trip to back the team.
Well done to all of them

9th March update;

Charlton Athletic 2-1 Portsmouth

That was a BIG result. A season changer in fact.
Charlton now have a great chance of finishing the season in 4th place.
If Portsmouth finish 5th I would really fancy our chances of getting to Wembley.

Joe Aribo will be gone in the summer, that's a damned shame. But it's just the way things are nowadays.
Well done the lads todat though, a deserved win despite a few late scares.

13th March update;

Charlton Athletic 2-1 Burton Albion

A low key midweek game, entertaining for the first 45 minutes.
After the first quarter of an hour I was wondering if this might be the game that Lee Bowyer was predicting a few weeks ago when he said Charlton would give somebody a real drubbing soon. His team started very brightly, went ahead early, and Burton offered very little.
But gradually the visitors worked their way into the game, while Charlton seemed to ease off their early pressure.

The second half was very ordinary, and I would say Burton edged it though neither team played well.
Eventually the quality second goal in the first half from Ben Reeves (after Taylor's superb cross) made the difference. Charlton rode their luck in the second 45 and Burton had chances to equalise. But time ran out for them in the end.

Credit to Burton, who tried to play football and were not overly physical.
Credit as well to Naby Sarr, Josh Cullen, Chris Solly and Joe Aribo - the best of our players on the night.
Parker however was frankly a waste of space.
I would rather see Hackett-Fairchild up front. Maybe his short-term loan will sharpen him up for the last four games of the season...

16th March update;

Bristol Rovers 0-0 Charlton Athletic

Another match completed with the minimum effort expended (according to the stats anyway).
Granted weather conditions were not good, but that was true of nearly all the other games today.
In truth Charlton could have lost this game and it would have made very little difference, but avoiding defeat is better for morale. Naby Sarr got his rest as well.
Well done to the large army of travelling fans who supported the team today.
