    6th January update;

    Charlton Athletic 1-1 Sunderland

    A cracking game at the Valley yesterday; highest attendance of the season so far by a big margin and a great atmosphere with the covered end really cheering on the team (especially during the second half) lifting their spirits for the battle.
    If Sunderland had taken their early chances they could have gone in at half time 0-3 or 0-4 up. But despite a sluggish start and the very early goal conceded, Charlton's defence were not made to pay any more, and eventually we began to measure up to Sunderland's slick attacking play.

    The second half brought an inspired display from Charlton, who continued their revival from the end of the first 45 by getting the ball forward quickly and cutting through the visitors' defence - giving them a big dose of their own medicine. They were forced to put in several cynical tackles to ease the pressure, which reached its height after the equalising goal. For several minutes Sunderland were on the ropes.

    In the end neither side could snatch the winning goal, but it was not for want of trying. A great display of gutsy football and a terrific afternoon for all the fans who were at the game.

    attendance: 16,317 (3,125 from Sunderland)

    12th January update;

    Shrewsbury Town 0-3 Charlton Athletic

    A professional and thoroughly deserved away win for Charlton by all accounts. And an important one.
    At first glance the stats might suggest a fairly even game, but 9 shots on target for Charlton indicates how potent our attacking play was. Shrewsbury managed 7 themselves but our defence and goalkeeper were equal to all of them.

    A great day out for the travelling Charlton fans; it is really beginning to look like the Addicks are going up this season.
    Brilliant work from Lee Bowyer and his ever-changing team.

    attendance: 5,995 (518 from Charlton)

    19th January update;

    Charlton Athletic 1-0 Accrington Stanley

    A vital win but possibly a costly one.
    No injuries that I'm aware of yet but Lyle Taylor sent off and now presumably is suspended for Charlton's next 3 league games;
    Peterborough United (away)
    Fleetwood Town (away)
    Southend United (home)

    Time to sign that loan striker now methinks...

    attendance: 11,877 (number of Accrington fans not known at this time)

    26th January update;

    Peterborough United 0-0 Charlton Athletic

    Only Charlton's second goalless draw of the league season. I can't comment on the game (wasn't there) but the stats suggest Charlton slightly edged the play and probably deserved a win, if not by much. A win there would probably have been as well, had Karlan Grant converted a late penalty. But his effort did not result in a goal and the draw was all we got.

    An away point is never a bad one, but Charlton cannot be squandering chances to win matches if we want to be promoted at the end of this season. Somewhat worryingly the Addicks have now failed to score from open play in their last two games - only scoring 1 penalty and missing 1 in that time.

    We're still in 4th place in the table, but the teams around us have quite a few games in hand.
    I think 5th place would be our position now if those games in hand had been played.

    A safe journey home to all the Charlton fans who went to support Lee Bowyer and the lads today.

    attendance; 9,002 (number of Charlton fans not known at this time, but somewhere in the region of 3,000 I believe)

    4th February update;

    Fleetwood Town 1-0 Charlton Athletic

    We deserved nothing and we got nothing. Lee Bowyer's own words.
    One shot on target in the whole game. The lowest this season I would assume.
    If anybody in the camp is feeling sorry for themselves they have no right to. They all know how things are done at Charlton these days.
    Lyle Taylor needs to curb his temper when he returns.
    If he didn't know before he surely knows now how much Charlton's promotion hopes rest upon him.

    10th February update;

    Charlton Athletic 1-1 Southend United

    A disappointing afternoon at the Valley.
    Charlton started brightly and created much attacking play throughout the game, but our lack of ability to finish definitely cost us 2 points. Being unable to score two goals against a very average team down to 10 men for an hour, that is poor.

    Our form has been slipping since the turn of the year.
    The return of Lyle Taylor may bring some more success, but he should not be expected to carry the season alone from hereon in.

    Attendance: 12,389 (1,483 from Southend)

    16th February update;

    Charlton Athletic 0-0 Blackpool

    I did not attend this game, but I gather this was another disappointing afternoon in SE7.
    The few positives were the return of Joe Aribo and a good game from Naby Sarr.
    But Lyle Taylor was apparently out of sorts and in a bad mood. He now has 9 yellow cards, so a two game suspension will follow the next time he is cautioned.

    Before the Southend game (and after Charlton had taken only one point from two away matches) Lee Bowyer said Charlton should be looking to take 6 points from the back-to-back home matches.
    We never even got close to that. Now our hold on 5th place is in jeopardy from Doncaster Rovers, who are only 3 points behind us with two games in hand, and with a better GD. And we face them on their home turf in 14 days time.

    23rd February update;

    AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Charlton Athletic

    A game of two halves so I gather.
    The stats say we had the better of it over the whole 90 minutes, so it sounds like a fair result.
    Charlton have finally turned dominance into 3 points - and not before time.

    Igor Vetokele comes off the bench to score only the third goal by a substitute in a league game this season for Charlton.
    The second? Mark Marshall... against AFC Wimbledon at the Valley.

    Nicky Ajose (believe it or not) got the first against Portsmouth.

    attendance: 4,532 (750 from Charlton)
