Final Declarations I will put up here once they are up! My three against the field - 1) Silviniaco Conti- the class is the right age horse in the race Nicholls has come and said he is better than Neptune Collognes. If he can stay the trip he has the jumping ability (in which he jumps like a stag) to get over and round and will be there at the end! 2) Morning Assembly - Absolutely love this horse, part from making a mistake 3 out at Cheltenham ran a lovely race- was an extremely talented horse at the height of the peak a year or two ago- and looks to be getting back to that imo guaranteed to stay and will love the national fences cracking price at 33/1 3) O'Faolains Boy- looked good along way in the gold cup and was well fancied for the welsh national( had backed him ante post for that too) until the ground was like a boy - again will look to stay the trip and the stable just starting to hit form and 50/1 great ew price Other horses I do like but talked myself out of backing them First Leuitenant - looks to have rekindled some his form when second to Don Poli in the Irish Hennessy and the extra trip will be appreciated , made a bad error early on last year that took him out the race worried he may do the same! Druids Nephew- Would he have won or not last year was looking good then was very unlucky and last year was a back up plan for the horse but he has been aimed at this this year, However he is carrying considerbly a lot more weight this year and imo there are better handicapped horses Many Clouds - Horses don't win the national twice
I think for a start he will stay all day. Last time out he was dropped out the back and made eye catching headway to finish thrid. You are probably right regarding his ability to jump fences but there is a chance it is just a matter of him not giving them any respect. He hasn't jumped the national fences before so who knows. They aren't as big as they use to be. Either he will take to them or not, at 50/1 he is easy to back with small stakes. Also I wouldn't be taking this race too seriously from a betting point of view so I would get more enjoyment with this horse than with lumping in with the shorties.
I know horses that win the GN the year b 4 have a bad record but Many Clouds is only 1 ld higher than last year so he has to have a chance My 4 are Silviniaco Conti 12/1 Unioniste 25/1 Many Clouds 15/2 fav Wonderful Charm 40/1 If any 1 knows of better sp on Sil Conti please post sp and where
Best horse oddy do u mean best proven horse over the distance , because the best horse in the race is King Conti and he could very much blow them away should he stay
He won't stay mate, be struggling by the time they come to Becher's 2nd time. Many Clouds has been there and done it, been trained specifically for this and looks the best fav for years in my eyes
Not sure on this won't stay malarkey, he's stayed 3 miles with the best around and now a handicap where they don't go as fast... He should be perfectly fine for me.
That is true he is the best looking favourite for years and he is out of all the horses that have run round the course he is the best horse however there maybe something lurking that is better than him round it this year! And that horse is Conti
Conti is a class horse- but isn't the GN trip 8 furlongs longer than the GC trip- a trip he has failed to see out three times (and the furthest he's gone?) Many Clouds is much better value at 8s rather than Conti at 12s for that reason IMO
That's like comparing apples to oranges. Aintree is a flat gallopers track and Cheltenham is far from that. They weren't far apart in the Gold Cup 13 months ago, neither looked great stayers that day. On form, SC is the better horse and is off less weight but MC has the GN experience. I also don't think MC will stay the trip in soft ground as well as some, but we will find out on Saturday. Currently my three would be - Bishops Road (won't get a run probably) who is so well handicapped. He'd love soft ground and he is one who looks to have bags of stamina. Rule The World who has form in book and light racing weight, if it comes up soft then he looks perfect type. Also would be fairytale story. SC, as already mentioned he's the best horse in the race.
Bets placed a few weeks ago, all each way. Replacement bets in brackets as looking unlikely last two will make the cut Le Reve The Last Samuri Morning Assembly Cause Of Causes (Saint Are) Alvarado (Paul Moloney's ride)
Don't quite see the point in backing a bunch of horses in the GN, a couple maybe, but I always stick with just the one bet, that's plenty enough for me with my record! To be fair on myself, haven't done too badly in my lifetime, got the winner a few times, plus a few seconds which included the great Scottish-trained horse Wyndburgh, and Sunnyhillboy in 2012, the latter really hurt as it lost by just a nose! So, on Saturday it's The Last Samuri Will take the 10/1 on offer today, and possibly have another bash at SP on Saturday, maybe.
Same as you Swan - it is a fun bet and hope to have winner - have gone with Saint Are at 25's but may do a second on Saturday with Shuthefrontdoor a possibility
