Its not just us. Remember Wolfswinkel at Norwich, probably a lot more too. Its difficult for any foreigner to come to England, easier if they come to a Man U or Chelsea as they get more ball-more chances etc. But they've had their duds too. Crespo, Schevchenko.
The pace and aggression is different for them and as a forward in a lower Pl team they find it difficult, thats why Abel struggled. The jury is out on whether he will handle it next season too.
Thats why me and GLP would like to see either a foreigner with experience of England, like Kodjia or an experienced English player.

Fair enough, but then those examples are a small cross section of the total amount of successful players that have been brought in; Shaqiri and Arnautovic at Stoke, most of Watford's team, Jedinak at Palace, Pelle and Wanyama (although he'd played in Scotland, still not the same) at Southampton; Fuchs, Mahrez and Kante at Leicester. All are examples of players that have come from other countries and done just fine, so why should we be the exception to the rule? Why can these teams have successful foreign imports but we can't?

Just because a player is English does not necessarily mean he is the right man for the job, nor does it mean he'll fare better in the Premier League. It's simply down to the way the manager deploys the personnel at his disposal. Many on here knocked Tom Huddlestone for his contributions over the years, but he's English and has played for England.

Well, £20m isn't going to go far on proven English talent, especially up front. £25m apparently doesn't even get you Troy Deeney. We would likely be spending £5m on the likes of Wells or Kodija and even Will Grigg and they are hardly nailed on to be successful in the Premier League. Double that if you want Dwight Gayle. It seems like fees and wages have gone crazy even since our last Premier League outing, hence why the likes of us, Watford etc have to look to talent from abroad. More risky, but potentially the money laid down can go a lot further. Berardi looked good on TV a couple of times this season, but even he will cost £10m - just turned down a return to Juve apparently.

I have a feeling that Huddlestone, Livermore, Davies will be back to their best this coming season- there are some players in our squad that know they ****ed up last time, and are going to want to make the most of their second chance. If he can get the support, I haven't a problem with Hernandez being up front either.

How did Kramaric do at Leicester? Thought we were talking specifically about forwards? Me and Glp certainly were.
Mahrez had a season in the championship anyway to ease him in.

If we're going to gamble on a few players why not Bradley Dack at Gillingham. Scored a few goals for them. £2m should do it...but we loan him out to a championship club for 4/5 months until Xmas to see how he does...hardly a big outlay but gives him time to develop.

I'd still rather buy English than the unknown quantities you are both quoting. They haven't played in England, we are crap with signing players from abroad. We can ill afford a season for them to get used to English football, culture, climate, Hull etc.

Any player as long as they are accustomed to England and English football.

Most talented English players have ridiculous price tags.

Oh, and Leicester signed Mahrez for £450,000. They also signed many other players from foreign leagues who had never played in England before.

Apologies if this is elsewhere... Just read Fletchers demands are for 40k a week.... what sort of drugs is he taking....!!!!?... I hope this has just been the newspaper 'lets write a Hull City' story... he's not good enough for us at 15k a week..

Proven English players at the top of their game are expensive.

But what you can do is pick up good players at a reasonable price, who become surplus to requirements as their team progresses. I'm thinking Dawson, Livermore and Hudds in this category.

You can also get players with class, who have under performed for various reasons, and are hungry to show they still have it. Davies as an example.

And there are young, hungry players, performing at lower levels, desperate to prove themselves at the highest level. Dave and Raymond for instance.

We need to be shopping for these types. So who's out there?

You need good scouting or a manager who knows what he is buying - something they had and we don't really have.

When you look at what West ham got for around £10m in Payet, then there are still bargains (given what the lad did in the season) to be had out there, trouble is I`m not convinced our scouting network is good enough. Leicester have a very good scouting network, we saw that when they were in operation here with Flat Head, miss them more then I miss him in all fairness.

When was our last successful signing from abroad?

Leicester had a better scouting network and they signed Mahrez when they weren't in the Prem so he had time to adjust.

A **** example for your argument.

Isn't the point that anyone 'proven' at this level in England is either a) out of our price range or b) in demand by a bigger / better club? Therefore we are forced to take a risk on unknown quantities.

Name one that has worked, for us?

Pointless risks if they bring nothing to the party. I'd rather sign less, but sign British players.

Amen Chazz.

Thing is, we need to shake this myth that all foreign players are bad. They aren't, we just don't play them properly. In the case of people like Proschwitz and Ben Arfa, fair enough they turned out to be duds, but it's no coincidence that these players are quality for others and then turn out crap for us.

We take foreign players and force them to fit our system and it should be the other way around. If they are that good, we should build a system that suits them.

The key is balance, not too many foreigners and not too many old English players.

No, we're **** at it. I can't even remember the last import that we can say was a genuine success.

Hernandez has taken two seasons and has still only proven himself in the Championship. The jury is still very much out on the premier league for me.

You could pick up a Lambert- he's not going to play a full season, but he knows this league like the back of his hand.

He'd bring experience and knowledge to our forward line - which is lacking. And he'd be great against those teams we expect to be in and around the relegation zone.

Pelle - he looks decent and was out of favour last season.

Chris Martin at Derby - PL defenders would hate playing against that big lummox.

Nakhi Wells - good record in a poor team from the Championship.

Kodjia - like Wells decent record in a really poor team.

I'd rather see us shop in this country than more aimless punts from the continent.

We've got enough punts on this board. ;)

Yeah so Kramaric failed. Okazaki came in and did a good job for them, though. Arnatuovic for Stoke, Pelle for Southampton, Mirallas does a good job for Everton, Saido Mane, Dimitri Payet, Diafra Sakho, Manuel Lanzini, Gylfi Sigurdsson (when he first arrived in the UK), Jefferson Montero, Jordan and Andre Ayew...

It's bollocks to say we shouldn't bother going abroad for signings just because we've picked up some poor ones in the past. That says more about the management and scouting than it does about the player himself. Any of the players above would walk into our front line and all have had at least decent successes in the top flight after playing abroad (you said Forwards so I've included AM midfielders in that). All were gambles that paid off. Yes, sometimes it doesn't work out, but that shouldn't put us off and it obviously won't, there's an abundance of talent waiting to be found and I'm sick of people saying it isn't worth it.

There's a good amount of talent in the lower leagues too, but just because Vardy has come through doesn't mean every English player in the lower leagues is a potential super star. They're just as unproven as any foreigner coming into the Premier League.

Also, Lambert is pretty ****, are we seriously suggesting he could do a job for us?

Yep. Maybe it's not a foreign thing. Maybe it's a 'our scouts and manager sign ****e strikers, both from England and abroad'.

I seem to remember Danny Graham being English, knew the Premier League and was accustomed to the English style of play. He was as ****e as they come for us.

Why would you ****ing bother naming a load of AM's? We're talking forwards. Ye Kramaric failed. The ****e from Norway that got Cardiff relegated. Wolfswinkel at Norwich. The ones up at Ncastle.
I'm sure there will be more.

You say take a gamble. We did with Abel it cost us our PL place when Deeney was available for the same price.

Hernandez and N'Doye (sort of) worked from abroad, as has Jakopovitch - however Diomande, Sagbo, Prozzy are right in the same class as Altidore, and Ghilas
