I think that Mick will continue on the path that he has plotted over the last few seasons improving year on year. So I predict we will finish 2nd.
At this stage of the season, I'll think we'll make a decent push for the play-offs but ultimately finish about 7th to 9th. Obviously we have another month to bring in some new players, but I think it's pretty clear we need to add more talent and reinforcements at the back.
Going for 2nd place. It will not be easy, but Town have good as chance as about 7 other teams and hopefully last seasons momentum can be kept up.
Top 10 somewhere. I honestly wouldn't be surprised with top 2 / play offs or just outside, quite happy with our squad bar the defence. Forest/ Blackburn/ Leeds to struggle. Main teams up there? Gotta think Derby/ Boro may head the pack. Surprise team? Bristol City.
In my opinion it's just a continuation of the progress MM has made....I'm just backing him to carry it on. 'My glass will never be half empty in my optimistic mind'
To use an old cliche, my heart believes McCarthy can carry on the progress and improve our league position, while my head is saying that with the squad issues we are facing, at this moment in time, we will likely struggle to meet such lofty ambitions. I'm sure many of you realise I'm not knocking McCarthy, I've been one of his most consistent supporters. I have confidence McCarthy has identified the problems we have at the back and is working on rectifying the situation. If he thinks we can go through a season with the depleted numbers or is contemplating promoting academy players, then fair enough. But if that's the case, I think a top two finish, realistically speaking, would be beyond us considering the recruitment drive and the more balanced squads other sides possess.
I agree Nugg I think MM knows what/who/how many he needs and still plenty'o'time to bring in new faces as first teamers and back up. Coyb.
Yep, transfer window's not closed yet and the first eleven is pretty much sorted. There will be more bodies in before the end of the summer but not necessarily before the first couple of games.
EADT are reporting that McCarthy is in the market for a couple of players, an established right-back and back-up left back would make me a lot more relieved and optimistic! Anyway, it's good to see us all relatively confident and optimistic ahead of the season. It could be the progress under Mick, the attacking riches, or because Spanish is on his summer siesta and not having his daily moan. I'll put it down to a combination of the three.
i agree fully with what Berra is saying re wide quick outlets - they in turn could take a hell of a lot of pressure off the defence and give us more attacking intent. Weirdly good quick wide options COULD yield us extra clean sheets I would think.
Totally Westy. Opposing teams full backs may be a bit more reluctant to push on and leave the space behind. Mick has made a similar team to his Wolves team with ANM and Fraser our very own Kightly and Jarvis.
Now we're in different divisions and not direct rivals - while it's funny to see you struggle etc and vice versa I'm sure, I'll be curious as to how you get on. I actually think you + Watford will do better than Bournemouth who I feel may well end up rock bottom - they'll score plenty but concede bucket loads I would imaginee. You have a decent chance of survival - how do you think you'll do ? Bournemouth + 2 to go down I think.
Come on those that haven't put their prediction down........tell us what you think now so we can reference it later on in the season when you claim all along 'you knew it would happen'....
I have a feeling we'll suffer this year with injuries, which will influence our league position. I think we'll be very close to the play offs again, but this time just falling short in finishing 7th...but we'll have a good cup run and get to the 1/4's.
Truly? I don't know. I can see us getting relegated, definitely. But then I can also see us sneaking into the top ten - there is just so little between the teams outside the top seven or eight. Neil is a fantastic manager, of that I have no doubt, but a lot will depend on injuries and form of strikers which is out of his hands - if Jerome or Hooper can finally prove they are a Premier League striker and stay fit, I think we should be safe with a bit to spare. Our strength is midfield, which is much improved on two years + ago and we at least will have that to fall back on. Failing that, we will need to pray that several clubs finally meet their impending implosion (Leicester, Villa, Sunderland and possibly Newcastle are all potentials) but that just hasn't really happened since Wolves and Blackburn so we can't count on it. It would also be pretty helpful if Watford and Bournemouth struggled - but both have good reasons to be positive albeit that they also need their new signings to gel. I think you'll be top half but will struggle to get play-offs again.
