Football is tribal. If England start with a couple of Chelsea players my support wanes. I am not too keen on Man Utd players either. They might just as well be zombie aliens from another planet for all i care. If England have someone with a QPR connection-even an Ex player like Crouchie-i want that player to do well to stay in the team. I once had a drunken discussion and told non QPR mates that if Chelsea were playing a team of the most evil war criminals i would want the Hitler X1 to win. (they thought i was radio rental) Yet at cricket, or any other sport, i fully support England.
As I read this, I thought, it was like i'd written it myself. What inspired me to post this thread, were Rebels and Watfords previous comments , on the 'Season so far' thread. The idea was to see who could come up with the most ridiculous and petty reason for Rangers over England. See Rebels comment on aforementioned thread.
In 1988 I took a job in Italy mainly on the basis that the World Cup was going to be there in 1990 (don't get me wrong I fancied living abroad anyway, footy just helped me choose Italy). Went to every England game in that World Cup and several other games as well. Stayed in Italy for 4 years. Both were brilliant experiences, that team did us proud. So speaking as someone who has made a life changing investment in the national team, I can say with authority...... QPR to win the Prem every time.
No contest, QPR to win Prem, F1 ,Ashes, 6 Nations, Ryder Cup, that sailing trophy, and the World Cup......
Would the answer have been the same if it was 'QPR to win the premiership with John Terry as captain or England to win the world cup?' I think we need to separate our dislike for the current England team from the idea of England. Maybe we are all succumbing to the premiership hype - 'best league in the world' etc. I can't stand it when Chelsea and Man utd fans belittle the England team because 'theirs is better'. If you look at the England flags at Wembley, most of them have 'lesser' teams and small towns on them. Does that mean you can't support a premier league club and England? Having said all that I'd still pick QPR to win the premiership, we've never done it!
I support England whoever they put out in the shirt just as I support QPR whoever they put out in the shirt, but the Rs will always be my first choice regardless...
I have never subscribed to this idea of not supporting England because there are players from certain teams in it. I would support England evn if all 11 were Chelsea players!! Sorry...but I would!! As for the question...I'm torn tbh!!
I’m with Col on this subject, it is not quite as straight forward for me as it would appear to be for most of you . Surely we can all remember the “feel good” factor that spread across the whole country when Venables’ England were going well in Euro ’96 and how we all felt when Stuart Pearce lashed home his penalty against Spain? So how does that compare to the feeling when the “no points will be deducted” announcement came? Well, having put it that way I’ve answered my own question. It has to be Q.P.R. for me too!
QPR, Champions of the Premier League! Of course. Only football dream that can beat that is QPR, Winners of the Champions League!
My apologies. Of course we have many Irish fans on our site. Forgive me for being over presumptious with the England fixation. Feel free to let the same question apply to wherever you're from in the world. Although being half-Irish myself.....The thought of Ireland winning the WC turns this conundrum on its head!!!
Looking forward to seeing the Irish at the Euros next summer, they always bring something extra to the tournaments they attend. I'm sure Ukraine & Poland will be 'Guinnless' by time it's over...
