Hope this is OK to ask, I don't want illegal methods.

I am happy with BBC live coverage but the highlights are a bit too cut down. I believe that RTL are broadcasting the races live on a satellite at 19.2deg and it's not an encrypted signal. But to get it I need to fit a new dish, and diseqc switch and point it at the correct sat.
I can probably manage to do that as I have sat signal meter etc but seems a bit excessive for just the F1. Has anyone tried this watching via RTL and say 5 live for sound?

Can anyone suggest alternative ways to watch all the 2014 F1 races live without paying Sky hundreds of pounds(NOW TV at £10 a day still too much)?

    Thanks

I have heard of people doing it the way you've stated, including running 5live through a signal delay, so they're broadcast in sync. I remember reading on another forum this time last year a detailed description of how to do it, but can't think of any other F1-specific ways of doing it.

I know people who've bought a subscription to the TV coverage of some Arabian state or another, then accessed the online broadcasts via a cheap VPN connection available online. Not sure of the legality of that one though, although they appear to have got away with it for viewing football for a couple of years. I know the total cost for that method is cheaper than getting Sky Sports, but not sure how it compares to the RTL approach.

Cheers, I had not thought of the signal delay. Looks like more research.
    Thanks

Having read lots of info I am about to order a zone 2 sky type dish so that I can point it at 19.2 (Astra 2C) so I can get RTL for pictures. I will be using my Humax FoxsatHD box which can control a Diseqc switch which can switch between 2 lnb's so I can switch between 28.2 (Astra 2D/freesat) and 19.2 using the Humax so that it can dual record from freesat when necessary and automatically switch and record from RTL when necessary.

I intend to record Radio 5 on my freeview box and record RTL on my Humax so I can get the picture and sound to sync.

Fingers crossed it wont be too difficult to set up. I do have a easy find lnb and receiver and a signal strength meter so should be OK.

Can't wait for season to start :D

I always just use myp2p. As to foreign satelite services if it's European it's legal, if it's not it isn't, there was a big case a few years ago when a pub somewhere was showing EPL games live through a foreign satelite, after being fined lots of money the pub owner went to the European court and won, restraint of trade, however now the EPL is wading in in the hope of suing lots of pub landlords in Wales for copyright infringement for doing the same thing, so now we wait to see if the law or money wins.

Thanks. I did read about EPL and pubs showing football. If I remember correctly that court found the pub could show football from foreign satellite but only if they didn't show the Premier League logo as that was copyrighted!!!
As you say the football people are trying their arm again with the welsh pubs.
The bits I need to get the satellite picture are only about £40 so not too bad to give it a try.

I don't get how they can make that stick. The logo is copyrighted, but if the Premier League have sold their coverage, complete with logo, to a foreign broadcaster, and a British landlord has legitimately bought a foreign box to view that broadcast, I don't see where the copyright infringement has occurred.

I totally agree, but I think that is why I remembered the logo issue as I thought it was stupid at the time.

Zone 2 dish with quad lnb, 25 meters dual cable, fitting kit, diseqc 4 way switch, and multi lnb holder ordered for £42 delivered. Just have to hope RTL continue with the free coverage. Mind you looks like Bernie is having pressure applied due to viewing figures dropping 10%.

Who would have ever thought that going from free to view in many countries to pay per view would reduce viewing numbers?????

Then just the fun of installing it :D
