On the first of January 2013

The gills were 2nd in league 2

On the first of January 2014 we are 16th in league 1

So despite all the doom and gloom about our form for the last few months it actually is not that bad . Every Gillingham would have snapped your hand off to be in this position we are in now , January and February saw us continue to be very solid away from but very predictable at home , this all changed about March time as we had beaten our away wins record and started taking draws away from home ,and after the plymouth game we won 4 home games in a row then ......

Promotion & Champions - the best time I've ever had at a gills game was burton albion we had done it we were the league 2 champions , martin allen seemed to be the manager who would take us forward for years to come . Unfortunately this did not happen after 11 games he was sacked with just 9 points on the board . This meant we were without a manager we needed to act quick and unsurprising Pete Taylor was given the job , and slowly things are starting to pick up , performances against Peterborough , tranmere and sheffield united can give us huge belief that we can kick on for the rest of the season .

This year has probably been the best year to support the gills for a long time and is one I will certainly never forget . UTG

    henrygills99 - Happy new year to you ( & everyone else )
I do not wish to spoil your party mood on this first day of a new year - but
although I may have been supporting the Gills for longer than yourself - and thus have experienced better times ( as well as a lot worse ) - a fact that cannot escape anyone ( maybe Taylor ), is that we do not do defending very well - without the inevitable outcome. PT needs to understand when the negative tactics are so wrong and cause us most of our problems... Look what happened v Walsall when we decided to cross the halfway line !

Our recent performances are encouraging - but the standard needs to be maintained. A defeat today will really drag us into deeper mire. There have been a few games this season that - with poor luck (not helped by poor tactics), we have wasted half a dozen or more points - which would have us looking up into the play-off places.

We have 22 games to play this season. A point from each is UNLIKELY to stave off relegation. If we are to achieve circa 50/52 points we need to win approximately 8 or 9 of those matches. ( we've only managed 7 in 24 ) ---- maybe at this point you might want to look at our remaining fixtures and try to predict where the next 24 - 26 points will be gained - because if Taylor deploys negative tactics on too many occasions in those 22 games we won't be relying on winning games !
