Can anyone hazard an informed guess as to what the aero and mechanical design implications will be (if any) of cars having these new 1.6 turbos in 2013?

Well they should in theory be lighter, but they'll need all the gubbins for the turbo and intercooler, which could require more cooling, which may disrupt the aero a little. It'll be a lower cc obviously but the forced induction may increase the exhaust gasses (Possibly).
I'm really just drawing idea's from 'road car' engines so I'm afraid my guesses may be well of in F1 terms.

Edit: The forced induction may require a stronger engine so with the turbo and its pipework it may even be heavier than the current 2.4's

I don't like the whole PURE thing, I prefer the engines to be made by a manufacturer. They won't really offer anything to the sport either, the only way you'll see the effect of their engines is if they're ridiculously good or hopelessly bad, we could do without either.

I remember the last time the turbos were used, in the early days it was inevitable that virtually every turbo engined car would blow the engine at each race, the one being driven fastest would blow first then the sister car would let go a few laps later, the smoke clouds were spectacular and oil and bits all over the track, the Renault's were memorable, extremely theatrical and put on a great show.

I recall the entire pit lane complex grandstands erupting into a cheering rabble when the Renaults both blew up within a very short time of each other during the British GP in 76 I think but not sure. John Watson went on to win.

I doubt we will get that sort of fiasco this time, sadly, now that was entertainment.
