Well Gang, it's that time of year again! The Return of Mares has been published, so if any of you want to know which mares have been covered by which stallions, feel free to post their names here and I'll look them up. In the meantime here are some statistics: Arakan - 239 mares Canford Cliffs - 184 Court Cave - 194 Fastnet Rock - 183 Galileo - 196 Getaway - 321 Gold Well - 241 Holy Roman Emperor - 194 Mahler - 204 Milan - 262 Oscar - 262 Scorpion - 339 Stowaway - 297 Zoffany - 194 Sea the Stars' book picked up well on last year, rising from 82 in 2011 to 150 (his largest book to date) in 2012. Any idea what happened to Silk Slippers PN? She was a lovely 2yo filly I was eyeing up for the classics (many years ago) and never saw as a 3yo. Can't remember her breeding but I think the sire may have been Nureyev.
Ron, Pink Slippers is not in the current RoM but I will have a look around and see what I can find. White Moonstone was covered by Dubawi
Ron, having had a quick look, it appears that SILK SLIPPERS went to stud in the USA after her racing career. She was indeed by Nureyev, foaled in 1987 out of Nalee's Fantasy. She raced 3 times for Barry Hills and Robert Sangster, winning 2 including the (then) G2 Fillies Mile. She then switched to the USA and raced 4 times as a 3yo but failed to win. From what I can see, she produced 5 foals, the last in 2000. You can see her progeny records here.
Thanks PN. How disappointing. She was a cracking filly. Can't believe I couldn't remember the dam's side; her dam was only a grand daughter of Ribot
pN Would be interested in the 2012 coverings of Purple Heather Rainbows Edge Flight of Fancy Fleeting Memory Daring Aim Tempting Prospect Flash of Gold Trianon Bonnie Doon I believe they are all in the Royal Studs still
Purple Heather – no coverings recorded Rainbows Edge – covered by Cape Cross Flight of Fancy – covered by Big Bad Bob Fleeting Memory – no coverings recorded Daring Aim – covered by Duke of Marmalade Tempting Prospect – covered by Teofilo Flash of Gold – covered by New Approach Trianon – covered by Makfi Bonnie Doon – covered by Shamardal It is likely that PURPLE HEATHER and FLEETING MEMORY are overseas, hence no covering returns.
Thanks pN that's great. I think you are right about Fleeting Memory as she had filly by Street Cry this year, not so sure about Purple Heather as she hasn't had a foal in 2012. I missed out a couple from her list. If you have time can you look at these for 2012:- Spinning Top Humdrum Anasazi Medley
Spinning Top – covered by Royal Applause Humdrum – covered by Paco Boy Anasazi - covered by Makfi Medley – no coverings recorded
Looks like the Royal Studs are having a bit of a punt on Paco Boy, two nominations for 2011/2012. She has the same number of nominations to Makfi in 2012. I've asked on another thread whether the Rainbow Quest mare Pretty Face is owned by HM or Juddmonte. Who is listed as the owner of Pretty Face in the latest RoM, as I think there is a possibility that the the Queen and Khaled are swapping mares for a few seasons? Or they could just swap foals. I think Medley is in the States.
Pretty Face is listed as a Juddmonte mare. It is possible that they may be exchanging foals, or even giving gifts of horses, a la Sheikh Mo with Carlton House.
Some stats for the high profile first season covering sires in 2012: CANFORD CLIFFS (IRE) - 184 DICK TURPIN (IRE) - 86 DREAM AHEAD (USA) - 134 ELUSIVE PIMPERNEL (USA) - 78 FROZEN POWER (IRE) - 155 LILBOURNE LAD (IRE) -132 POET'S VOICE (GB) - 144 POUR MOI (IRE) - 148 RODERIC O'CONNOR (IRE) - 135 ZOFFANY (IRE) - 194 There have also been some big shifts in the numbers of mares for some stallions: AMADEUS WOLF covered 29 in 2012 compared to 110 in 2011 ARAKAN has gone up from 62 to 239 ARCADIO up from 61 to 145 ASK up from 164 to 206 AZAMOUR down from 154 to 46 BEAT HOLLOW up from 23 to 104 (moved from Juddmonte to a National Hunt stud) BIG BAD BOB up from 77 to 141 BRIAN BORU down from 135 to 45 BUSHRANGER up from 164 to 215 DAYLAMI down from 105 to 41 GOLD WELL up from 83 to 241 HALLING down from 104 to 30 HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR up from 112 to 194 LORD SHANAKILL down from 128 to 80 MANDURO up from 77 to 158 MOSS VALE down from 105 to 23 NAYEF down from 100 to 51 ROCK OF GIBRALTAR up from 105 to 176 SAKHEE'S SECRET up from 50 to 108 SCORPION up from 215 to 339 SEA THE STARS up from 87 to 150 SHIROCCO up from 77 to 123 THEWAYYOUARE down from 148 to 85 VALE OF YORK down from 116 to 62
Some surprising statistics. Azamour seems to have been a big disappointment as has Daylami, in fact I'm surprised he was a 100 + last year. I must have missed something about Rock of Gibraltar, what has caused him to increase. Thanks for looking at Pretty Face. It does look like a foal swap as Juddmonte got Pythagorean.
Daylami was brought back from South Africa as a jumps stallion last year. The jump breeders tend to jump on the bandwagon pretty darn quick, and in huge numbers. Look at Getaway, his first crop are only foals and yet he covered 321 mares this year!
If you are at a loose end pN I wouldn't mind knowing where these lot went in 2012. They are all owned or part owned by Mark Dixon and are all from the same foundation mare Felucca. This is the family of the Group 1 winners Sharp Edge, Buoy, Bireme, Cut Above, Longboat and Bolas, to name a few, mostly owned by Dick Hollingsworth. Yawl Genoa Brindisi La Spezia Prowess Lakatoi they get smaller every year!
Yawl – covered by Duke of Marmalade Genoa – covered by Azamour Brindisi – covered by Strategic Prince La Spezia – covered by Intikhab Prowess – covered by Fastnet Rock Lakatoi – covered by Manduro
