It's always **** old stuff, usually from 60's, 70. and 80's Who gives a ****. What what happened at the turn of the century? How is life treating you, after that big massive world ending crash (that didn't happen) treating you? It seems like the start of the new century is forgotten
The dot com crash wrecked my industry (telecoms) and effed up my plans for how I was going to work (and on what) for the last half of my career. Financially, it was meh for me (dot com crash and the CDO scandal) .
was still in school and university living it up. Loved university but boy was i a tight little ****er as i was poor. Nowadays have the money but no time!
Left school in 1999, so the millennium was when **** started getting real. Got a job, started earning money, started doing more and more drugs. Getting hammered every weekend and staying up for 72 hours. Banging hoes I met at Bar Central....good times Nowadays if I lose an hours sleep I am almost comatose and the only drugs I take are prescription painkillers for my MD. Recently took up smoking weed again though to help the pain, its ****ing good.
The 2000s was like a huge hangover after the party that was the 90s. Sure, I had more financial security and things did generally get better but the optimism that everyone had when the Berlin Wall came down very quickly disappeared once we realised that it wouldn't be 'peace in our time', following 9/11, 7/7 and other tragedies.
In school for most of it, first year of secondary was during 9/11 and then four years later was 7/7. One of the coaches from my football team back then told us all how his son had a massive stroke of luck during 7/7. Would've likely been at Edgware Road the time of the explosion as that was his route to work but his alarm never went off that morning so slept in. Ended up getting a part time job in drainage during my second year of 6th form, attendace to school was something like 35% and despite countless warnings the school never booted me out, still managed to get two AS levels and one A2 level because I'm smart as ****. After school just usual **** really, got a full time job in recruitment, went pubs/ clubs/ bars, few trips abroad with the boys, discovered a likeness for certain drugs, some which I still occasionally dabble with and that's about it from 2000-2009.
I grew up. Prior to then I was a feckless single bloke knobbing birds, getting pissed, taking pills, behaving like your typical weekend millionaire. I met my Mrs in town the night I returned home from the 1999 CL final. I was pissed, been drinking Cava all the way home. It took her a few years but she straightened me out. By Christmas I'd bought my first house and then a few years later sold that for a packet and bought our first together. After that we started knocking the kids out, I got a way better job and started enjoying work and going up the ladder. Since 2000 it's been all .
The City in the 80’s was decadent - so much fun where everything was done to excess, and I took full advantage
I was working at Citi in The Strand at the time and although, technically, I was still living with my parents, I wouldn't see them for weeks at a time. We were always in Smollenskys, TGI's and every other bar around Covent Garden. Never knew where i'd be waking up the next day. Alas, all good things come to an end. Nick Leeson has a lot more to answer for, as far as i'm concerned.
2000-2010 strange decade for me, probably earned more money than I had ever earned in my life. Travelled all over the place, had holidays that people only dream of, stayed in some of the most expensive hotels you could imagine, probably a month's wage to some people, was a very lucky guy in that perspective, but i suddenly started to realise money doesn't bring you happiness to your inner self, it just takes over your life...so from there on in around 2011, I decided to change it all, and when i change something there is no half measures, never looked back, never had a regret, not quite as much money, but comfortable and far, far happier, got my life back.
