Been looking at the teams from yesterdays games on MOTD and noticed a strange trend,
Man Utd 2 up top
Liverpool 2 up top
Man City 2 up top (for 20 minutes anway)
barcodes 2 up top
Villa 2 up top
All these teams are doing very well in the league and doing it with 2 up top so why oh why does Bruce persist in this bollocks 4 4 1 1 rubbish? answers on a post card to S Bruce c/o the Jobcentre Sunderland hopefully.
 
4-4-2 is the old English way of playing football and it works why complicate things with 4-5-1, 3-5-1-1,
Its like why does everyone have to be in our box when we give a corner away commonsense says if there is no one up front its going to come straight back

Why do some teams not have anyone on the post on corners

Why complicate the bloody offside rule

I think ill start watching baseball much simpler game smack the ball and run like ****

You will find that a lot of these teams have one of the strikers playing just a little deeper to link up with the midfield. In our side, Ba tends to do that too. So whilst it's 4-4-2 on paper, in reality it fluctuates between 4-4-2 and 4-4-1-1 as and when is needed.

I'm hoping that Newcastle eventually move into a 4-4-1-1 with Ben Arfa as it should be a far more threatening attack force with him there. I guess it all comes down to adjusting the formation to player strengths. If a team doesn't have a player good enough to change the formation to fit him in, then it's better sticking to the 4-4-2.
 
Two strikers?
Sorry mate you can't play for a draw using two strikers.

I agree with Mitch about corners why oh why everyone back?
If we have two up field the oppos have to have defenders up there to cover them.
Even when Ming gets the ball he counts to 4 and hoofs the ball up to the oppos and they come running back at us whilst we are still trying to get up field.
 
What I truly can't understand is who we play up front in our next game.. Bendtner ineligible and Ji and wickham have 0 starts between them. Well done Steve. No really, well done <doh>

Revert to the Brighton tactics 4-6-0 hoping the same score. Damage limitation. Thats about his ambition I think.
