Alan Curbishley is close to being appointed. Ok its the S*n & the Mirror so I will say report loosely!
About 4 years after the time when we should have appointed him. Another manager who has been out of the game along time but with a very impressive past record. Time to start the accusations of out of touch tactics etc all over again or a bit of positivity?.

    The salient paragraph is:-
The biggest irony is that your next two fixtures are against Derby and Sheff Weds - neither of whom are full of glowing praise for Mr Jewell.

My feelings are that his job is now untenable because if he hasn't got the confidence then how can anybody else have it? i reckon Derby will be the last game win, lose or draw and we will have a new manager by the weekend.

The problem is, him being sacked will affect the players moral. He knows he isn't good enough, the fans know he isn't good enough and I can only presume the players know he isn't good enough. The problem being, he is a very likeable guy thus he has earned (used loosely) the respect off the players. When Roy left/ got sacked, it improved the players overnight. Not because of the way they were playing football, but because Roy was a prick, and no body cared little for him.

As for Curbishley, I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. Been out of the game for far too long, and I think, as with Jewell, his tactics will be too outdated.

    Please not Curbishley.

Another well known name looking for 2 years at a club, then a pension-sized settlement.

I agree with the general feeling that curbishley would be like for like. But i disagree with Midlander to an extent. While a new manager bounce is never guaranteed or swapping managers at all is the best idea unless performances and results have fallen off the cliff - like they have now - I think any change in manager will get the players playing again with renewed confidence.

I beleive this for 2 reasons
    1. new ideas - Jewells ideas/plans/tactics are evidently not working. Someone elses ideas might get the players some new belief, even if it is just a small tweak. We saw the effect when Gorman came in as Jims assistant, to an extent when Keane arrived though how much of that was derby win/geo inspired is obviously debateable , and obviously the Bullard inspired bounce when Jewell arrived.
    2. Atmosphere in the stands - Fans have every right to protest however they want and i dont want this point to be seen as disputing that. but the atmosphere especially at PR can be doing nothing to help the players confidence. A new manager might not be someone which every fan agrees with but will remove the uncertainty and protests at least for a while. Giving everyone a fresh start to build on.

I have mixed feelings about Curbishly tbh. He did very well at Charlton and built them up as a club, which would fit in with us. He was also thought to be an outstanding manager and until the last year has been linked with nearly every job in the top division. But on the negative side, he's a fairly big name, he's not exactly young, I was overly impressed with his time a West Ham and he's been out of the game a very long time!!

One positive however is, if we go for him, we could do alot lot worse!!!

I'm not saying that we have to keep our manager Mike, please god no! You're probably right in some aspect, that with every club who changes managers after loss/ lack of form, every club has a new manager syndrome.

The quality of the manager determines how long the good spell last for when a new manager joins, unlike the previous few who have a good opening 4 matches and that's it.

Who ever will be the new manager, good luck to them. Not only with sorting out the team and getting some points, but also in the boardroom working with Bill and Ben.
