there is a report in the sun today we are going to bid 2 million for fraser forest i hope it is true it would be excellent news.
Shame the story is in The Sun as that means there is probably very little truth in it. I would like this to happen though although at the same time I'm not saying drop Ruddy. A good price for a good keeper and will create competition between the two. Then Rudd can get some proper experience out on loan in league 1/2
He's a 3rd choice keeper. 2-2.5 mil is a fair amount, especially with the lack of premier league football... I hope we do make a move for him!
Well you'll have to drop Ruddy then because he want's guaranteed first team football, he's not going to leave battling for the number one shirt at Newcastle to do the same at Norwich
This kind of comment is so wide of the mark it is untrue. Surely every player at every club has to battle for their place. If they do not then it will not be a very successful club! NOBODY at Norwich is guaranteed a first team spot. Everyone has to earn it. I suppoe the draw to Fraser coming here would be that he is only competeing with one other goalkeeper to get a start (assuming Rudd goes out on loan).
No, he said he had no intentions of coming back to Newcastle to sit on the bench. He want's first team football or he's going, despite being our 3rd best keeper and he's a Newcastle fan.
A player does not decide if he gets first team football or not, the manager does that. He would be very welcome to come to us and sit alongside Ruddy. they can then fight it out on the pitch for the first team spot. may the best man win. If he joined Norwich he would not be number 1, but then nor would Ruddy. They would be the 2 first team goalkeepers and whoever proves themselves to be better gets the shirt (until their form drops). At Newcastle he has 2 guys clearly ahead of him and no chance to win the spot for himself.
But any club who makes a guarantee that a player is going to play every game no matter what is stupid. You just can't make those statements to a player as you don't know how he will perform. Players need to have competition for their place to improve.
Better keepers than these two have had this 'problem' before. Step forward messrs Clemence and Shilton. Before I get shot down, yes, I do realise that they were at different clubs and that their 'contest' took place at International level.
The difference with international football is that as they were both English, they did not have the option of moving elsewhere. They had to fight it out.
But nowadays Kenny, it wouldn't surprise me of the poor, pampered spoilt bastards that pley in the national team, whinged and wailed if they weren't picked to play in their positions.
the general rule is bringing ex-players back is a no-no, but this would be an exception - but i can't see it happening TBH
Great whilst he was with us, but I would rather see us pick up an experienced freebie like Hahnemann. We also need to remember we have Rudd who may lack experience but will be a future star, would rather see us keep some faith in what we've got and get a free agent then splash the cash.
As a toon fan, wouldn't mind going to you guys on loan, but not permanently as I think both him and Krul could be the next Harper and Given.
Forster is a quality keeper, i believe Newcastle are worried about letting a young English keeper go cheeply end up playing International footy and worth way more later. If we do get him i would give him the number 1 shirt . Ruddy is good but think he will be a weak link in an unforgiving league. Its the SUN so probably crap, Lambert likes to do his business quietly.
