Let's be honest, when the fixtures came out for this seasons games I would have taken 4 points from the first 2 and wouldn't you know it, Liverpool got 4 points in our first 2 games! Now, they didn't get them the way I thought they would have but at least they did it. So, should LFC have 6 points now? Probably, as I see the draw with Sunderland as 2 points droped. I guess what I'm getting at is this: Are Liverpool continuing their poor form against so-called "lesser" teams that, on paper, they should be beating, or at the very least, drawing with. We all know that when it comes to the big games, your Arsenals, your Chelseas, you Man Utds, the players show up and put in a great performance and very often they have come away with the spoils. Recently relegated Blackpool took the maximum 6 points from Liverpool last season and these 2 results alone cost them a place in the Europa league. I guess only time will tell whether Liverpool have got rid of this curse and play every game like they're playing the big boys. If Champions League football is the target, then this area of Liverpools game needs to be remedied.
I wouldn't say dropping the two points against Sunderland predicts a poor season against lesser teams. It was the first game of the season with so many new players- and legs not back in the habit of running so much yet. Can't really tell much from the first couple of games.
we are the only team to take three points from a top four team away from home - reasons to be cheerful
I think if we got the three points against Sunderland and a point against Arsenal, we would have been happy with that. I'm slighty disappointed that we didn't pick up the three points against Sunderland but i'm happy with the start we have made.
Bolton is going to be tough, they wiped the floor with QPR and gave Citeh a really tough game. It should be interesting, but the win against Arsenal should give us that boost to get something from the game.
I was hoping for 6 points to be honest. Four is good enough though and not a bad start. Considering we usually mess up at the start of a new season we can't really complain.
If you take the view that we should've taken three points off Sunderland based on past results then you also have to take the view that we should've only taken a point at best from Arsenal. 2 points dropped is the glass half empty; a point taken is the glass half full.
2 positives. 1st we felw out of the traps in hte first game and just ran out of steam, match fitness played a part, Sunderland defended in the first and conserved energy and used it in he second half yet we didn't crumble, it took a good goal to level and we should have been 2 or 3 up by then.. 2nd When we are expected to win against a suffering opponent, we went and did it, did it without panic and rushing around desperately trying to get a goal. We were patient and hardworking even if the glitter wasn't there, and how aboyt Charlie Alons.. Adams Not afraid to have a go, looked composed and like he belonged. team has a lot of gelling to do, midfielders need to gel with each other, defenders and forwards, definately the hardest position to come in to. Henderson, although a little shy was finding good space and offering options, needs to be more confident and bullish needs to scare defenders a little more. Lucas, well in mate!! I would have preferred Doyle instead of Carroll in the last two games, although not as big, he can hold up a ball like amofo and bring in the midfield, I honestly think he will do well for the team no end if we got him. All in all, 4 good points everything considered.
excellent points.... my view. 1. blackpool were not an opening game!!! they beat us by outworking us... sunderland were an opening game were we could have got 2 first half ans saw them off... didn't and then go tired. 2. there is therefore no correlation between these sides to compare... my own personal view is player can always lose it and play lazy but kenny will not tolerate it and has options now to change it... we've sold and bought on the basis of games from last year.... workers are all bought.... luxuries on the way out. i agree that i'd take 4 points from 6 here....
If it's form and predictions you're worried about then you can treat the sunderland game as a moral victory. We were robbed of Carroll's goal and 2 points but the team did enough to win the game and I don't see it as a bad omen for the season. With the squad we've got now and being out of Europe the team should finally be able to bring their top game every week, so it should be a good season in terms of consistency.
If some of us were offered 4 points from two games, I reckon we would have taken it. Although it realistically would have been the other way around ie a win against Sunderland and a point against Arsenal. The win against Arsenal though does show that this side although it hasn't gelled yet and isn't firing on all cylinders has a lot of character. Its very encouraging. I do think that Andy Carroll should be given a run-out on wednesday against Exeter to boost his confidence,f he could bang in a couple of goals, it may and just may start him off.
Especially as three of those points came against our main rival for a top four spot and I have just watched one of the others getting slaughtered in the 2nd half by manu, spurs centre midfield and defense were laughable at times allowing manu all the time in the world. Can't wait to see what hansen says about the defending for the third goal. PS manu goalie is still looking ****e but got away with it again.
What are you talking about? He kept a clean sheet so that means he's world class! (Just getting this deluded point out there before any United fan can) Imagine sticking big Andy on him for every corner. He'd probably throw himself to the ground, as he does, and burst into tears.
So far so good. In the first game we could have been at least 2-0 up at half time. We weren't, we tried in the 2nd half and got tagged. In the 2nd game we had already gained the upper hand (possession, shots on target. etc) before we brought on Mirallles and Suarez. The defence was solid in restricting them to 30yd efforts. The midfield was already winning their battle - Nasri spent most of the 2nd half in his own half. Up front Carrol was keeping their CBs occupied whilst Kuyt and Downing ensured that their FBs stayed at home. Even before they went down to 10 men they were already tireing. All of that pointed to a team that was fitter for their first game and were playing for each other. If you consider that we had never won there and that even without Fabregas they were supposed to play around us. So now we face the challenge of Bolton but we do so with a fitter and stronger squad who are starting to gel.
