didn't realise that, but that's true, 2 games, and 2 diving penalties, what a joke, meanwhile for us, we hardly ever get a penalty as Wenger has said. and the ref's keep calling for respect, f-off.
I am getting sick of the cheating and the ease at which referees point to the spot against us. Remember last year - Liverpool 8 mins into injury time, two against Newcastle (one debatable, one never a penalty). Or the ridiculous penealties we seem to always concede against Utd. Seems like our players literally have to be assaulted in the penalty area for us to get a pen - although even then its not always given (Barton on Gervinho?). Both Bale and Saurez are just the latest two, but both should be facing lengthy bans for blatant cheating. Well done OP for calling out another cheat today.
Really sorry but seriously...if we want cheating stopped then we should condemn all that do it. Ive read plenty on here defending Eduardo ... Apparently there was contact v Celtic and pires....and Ashley Cole... I personally hate it....leaving a foot dragging, going down for a slight touch is as bad as diving...its fine to complain when it goes against you but we all need to complain at our own players when they do it. Personally I find Bales diving a joke but EVERY TEAM does it including arsenal.
Okay, Eduardo was a dive, can you mention any other clear controversial instances of Arsenal diving for penalties? Please don't go to Pires against Portsmouth, I am talking present day. The controversy we did have was when Gervinho DID WIN a penatly but instead got assaulted by Barton who just got a yellow card while Gervinho the victim who also was fouled and deserved a penalty got a red card, we have been the ones getting screwed over with bad calls, when it's a penalty for us, hardly given, but ref's have been more than happy to award them against us when the dives have been so blatant, even on TV today it was so obvious suarez made a meal of it.
My point is mate we all kick off when it goes against us but defend our players if they do it. This thread has called for retrospective bans...Eduardo was given one and arsenal appealed cos there was 'contact' so it was overturned and EVERY arsenal official and vitually all arsenal fans denied he dived.like I said I hate diving but going down 'easily' or leaving a leg trailing is just ad bad but is called 'clever play'. And yes I can name an arsenal player with form...Walcott.
There are lots of Arsenal players who have cheated in the past, but there are not many serial cheats like Bale. Even Pires wasnt close to Bale in the cheating stakes. Its pretty much every time Bale loses the ball - which is often - he cheats.
I just couldn't understand how the REF was unsighted, the linesperson was unsighted and he gave a penalty !!!
Speaking of Jamie Redknapp, the prick did seem intent on trying to keep talking about Van Persie's contract situation after the match. We just defeated Liverpool at Anfield, and that's all he was interested in.
Like I said ... Until EVERY cheat is treated with distain then it'll continue. Bale being a serial cheat seems like an excuse ... 'our cheats aint as bad as yours' As for Jamie redknapp...befire Harry became our manager he did the same kind of thing with us...would always talk about how berbatov and defoe would be great at unitefand Chelsea and robbie Keane would fit in well at Liverpool...and have you seen him in that thompsoms holiday ad and the marks and Spencers ones? Like he shops there or goes on package holudays!
Here's your answer. Eduardo dived against Celtic, UEFA tried to take action, Arsenal hauled out the lawyers and the rule book and the video evidence, built up a huge dossier of evidence, and he got away with it. That set a very bad precedent and now the authorities know if they try to ban any other players they will face the same situation. I'm not criticising Arsenal - they did what was best for the club, and any other club in the same situation would have done the same thing. But the Eduardo case was the 'test case' from a legal point of view, and it established that the authorities couldn't prove an intention to cheat if there is contact, no matter how small. So now any player who goes down with the merest touch, or drags their leg to get contact, knows that the worst they can get is a yellow card (and even then they usually have to dive twice to get it) whilst the best they can get is a possibly match winning penalty and potentially a card for the opponent. I think if UEFA and FIFA really cared about diving they would introduce a rule requiring players to make reasonable efforts to stay on their feet in the challenge, i.e. be more like Messi than Ronaldo. It would make it easier to punish players and refs would be able to give benefit of the doubt to the defenders and book more divers. But they don't cos that would have the Spanish and Italians up in arms...
For all the talk about lawyers, rule books, evidence, it seems to me that if the referee didn't see it nor did the other officials, the penalty should not have been given. However it is true that the authorities should also make an attempt to require players stay on their feet as much as is possible. The matter won't be resolved overnight but we all have to start somewhere.
