Not a lot you can do when Liverpool come calling, they're a tad better than us. Donald's talked them into adding sell on clauses at least which he says they didn't have to do and puts it down to a good relationship between the clubs.

True mate, arsenal took one of our kids last year aswell and the lad the put the sex allegations in against our youth coach has gone to City so at least we're doing something right in the academy.

If we were a top end Championship club most of these kids would probs stay and compete though. Our club is in a depressive state and like ive already said, reality has only just kicked in now because we thought League 1 was just going to be a quick visit.

Just as a general observation, I wonder who is advising these young players.

If they are looking to make a career then the question should be, where am I going to get the best chance to succeed.

I believe that though the Europa League Final was between two English Clubs, there were no English players selected to start for either side.

My point is that joining one of the 'Big' club's Academy's might seem glamourous but, there will be more opportunities to shine at a Club in the lower Leagues.
A look at the number of players who get farmed out on loan by some of these Big clubs tells me that breaking through into the first team must be nearly impossible.

It's going to be hard anywhere for them but even tougher at the likes of Chelsea or City.
And whatever the financial rewards are, they wont last long if the scrapheap is where you end up.

While it's true that 'talent will out in the end', that only applies to a very small percentage of youngsters.
But careers might still be available for those that fail to make it with the likes of Arsenal/City etc.
The question should be, are they more likely to achieve this by jumping ship at such an early stage of their developement.

As an example, Jordan Henderson's chosen path has done OK for him.
