most likely 1981 82 season I went to my last Bristol rovers game! it was a home fixture on either this equivalent fixture day before new year or the new year fixture cant find it on records but I am sure the rovers didn't lose, think they were having a rough time and I kept ribbing my mates to pay for me to go and have a pie and pint as a lucky mascot! after this visit! It was a time of turmoil in Bristol, LIKE MOST places with redundancies in progress or looming! from a population of UK about 50m .... 3.4m became unemployed. AROUND the same time [ late 70's early 80's ]a dog called call me cutie won a race there, @ 100/8 I won a an amazing amount of money on it, taking ODDS OF 100/6 100/7 100/8 and £10 tote place altogether £50, my first bet I chickened out just £15 at 100/6 was going to have £30! also did tote forcast 3 dogs but not odds on favourite from London, at £2 on tote, favourite fell over! yippee the last race was my saviour ... I was playing up my winnings stuck to same trap number [ not cuties ]increasing stake ...foolish ... last race I was determined to go home with £20 in my pocket so lent it to a mate. last race I won £472 combination of forcast and winning dog .... after cutie's race I had had near to £800 !
