To be honest I'm absolutely sick and tired of debating or reminiscing about 1973 and the fact that its 40 years since we last won ANYTHING at ANY level. Its become a millstone rather than a celebration imo and merely highlights what a miserable shower of ****e we have been for the past 4 decades. Also, I find little comfort in the fact we beat the mags 23 years ago but then couldn't beat or even draw against a very poor Reading team yesterday with a supposedly far better team, of far better paid and far more pampered players. Sadly and depressingly so tbh.
Glory days mate a good cup run is what we need, semi final at the least and its happy days again. P.s. only remember the final as was too young and destitute to get to games.
I'm just sick of having to live in the distant past for any solace of following SAFC. I was 9 the last time we won anything and I'll be closer to 49 before we even get a sniff of changing that stat. That's bloody hard to live with.
Ditto Cest been to Wembley 3 times with the lads and lost every time although the Swindon play off was sort of a win can I count that?
Milk Cup final 85 FA cup Final 92 2 play off games 90 and 98 Even a defeat against Wigan in the Football League Centenary Tournament (40 min match) on pens in 88 Was at them all and all were inglorious defeats and all massive disappointments. Is it any wonder we get manically depressed following SAFC. Lol
You might have a point mate. Didn't get to the Milk Cup Final was defending the country from fruit wielding natives. Was at the FA Cup in 92 against the dippers and both play offs hacked off in 90 and ended up on the lash with a couple of paras from Durham. The Charlton one was soul destroying mind, remember going home in the coaches passing Charlton fans who looked like they'd just been hammered 10-0, it's a funny old game
