For those of you too young to remember the final fixtures to the 67-68 season, the run in included a final day shoot out between Manchester and the North East.
City were at the head of the table as they are now, and played their last game away at Newcastle, Man Utd were home to us and had too win too have a chance of winning the league and hoped City slipped up at SJP.
I remember watching MOTD that night and Kenneth Wolstenholme introduced our match as a must win for Utd and we were there only to make up the numbers,( he actually said that), however it didnt work out that way as we won 2-1 thanks to goals from George Mulhall and Johnnie Crossan (I think) which upset the apple cart, that by the way was our last win at OT. In the end it didnt matter as City trounced Newcastle 4-0 at SJP to clinch the title.
Well we have a similar scenario this season and City can all but clinch the title next Sunday with another victory at Newcastle as their goal difference at this stage of the season is too great for Manure to claw back.
It would be good for the title to go to the last weekend and give us another chance to upset Utd by denying them the title. We will have too wait and see.

How times have changed, in those days 'my mob and I' used to go to Newcastle one week and Sunderland the next, some of us were citizens of the light and supported Sunderland and some were denizens of the dark and supported Newcastle, it did not seem to matter that much then.

So if IIRC correctly I was in St James when they were beaten by City, I have to say it was all a bit of a haze, seeing it was the 60s, although the 'skunk' in those days was not as strong as that of today.

I was there that day, I remember it very well, after the match we were all in pub called the Hole in the Wall beside the fruit market in the middle of Manchester and I remember somebody dancing on top of the juke box, everyone cheering, no trouble at all, the landlord was over the moon with all the booze being consumed , then somebody hoyed a fruit box through the window from the outside, of course the police were called and they spoiled all the fun, everyone back to the coaches etc.., but it was a great day out, happy memories.
