http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/classic-matches-1-1141251.aspx? Saw this game -great to be reminded. In those days there was no segregation, stood on the bob bank with the bluebirds, not sure if they chanted bluebirds in those days.Plenty of banter but no trouble between fans. If I remember correctly, Herbie Williams scored a cracker! Dont think we will see eight goals on Sunday.
The article says that Murray was sent off for a head but on McLaughlin .... Murray must have been on his knees to do that.
I was there, and it truly was a game of two halves. Cardiff dominated the first half, took a two goal lead, adding a third soon after restart. My mates and I were contemplating leaving, fearing a 5 or 6 goal drubbing, then the head butt incident took place. Murray was sent off and The Swans' scored from the free kick. Suddenly the game was turned upside down and the score was 3-3 at end of 90 mins. Extra time saw Swans' dominate, eventually winning 3-5. A night to remember, and no mistake. As Pete stated,no segregation,no trouble.
You old bastards wasnt even a twinkle in my fathers eye, hell my father hadn't even started that stuff at that point
Thats how football or any sport come to think of it, be watched , no segragation ,We as society have become more violent or maybe less able to cointrol our base instincts I suppose
Ahh Jimmy Mac. Scored one of the goals at Anfield 2 years earlier when we beat Pool 2-1 to go to the semi final of the FA cup.Must rank as one of best away wins ever. Stopped Liverpool doing the double that year and their team was all internationals!!!
"Jimmy Mack" by Martha Reeves and The Vandellas even became the teams theme tune for a while. Eddie Thomas scored the other goal against Liverpool,if my memory serves me correctly,Pete.
Yes Eddie Thomas scored the second and our goallie Noel Dwyer played outstandingly for the next 70 mins.
