Just read an article by Darren McAnthony the Peterborough chairman, he claimed that they were close signing an 18 year old premiership striker, who had never been out on loan and his wage was quoted as 45k per week FFS, but was being offered at 15k per week (even that is outrageous) the deal broke down because the player basically wanted a first team guarantee.
Haven't read anything about that, but are you sure it was the player who wanted the guarantee, not the loaning club? I say that because Liverpool tried to impose that on us over the loan of Marko Grujic. They eventually settled for a minimum number of 18 appearances subject to a "fine" if that wasn't achieved. Clubs want their loanees to play for their surrogate clubs unlike Chelsea's Ampadu who sat on the bench for a season with Leipzig. I think he actually got on the pitch 3 times - what a waste of time.
Liverpool seem to impose that, we paid Liverpool a lot of money for not playing Ryan Kent as often as we should, mind you he was pile of pooh for us. I think it's a ridiculous imposition to put on a loaning club. I think you are correct, I believe that it was the club official who tried to impose the minimum amount of appearances.
We didn't pay them anything. Warnock chucked Grujic on half a dozen times as sub which still qualified as an appearance to get to the target.
Not as much but Yeovil had an 18year old keeper on loan from Chelsea a few years back. He was paid £12k a week but my understanding was Chelsea paid the vast majority of his wage.
That would have saved money but taken up a subs place. I can’t remember what the team looked like back then. I just remember Kent being a greedy bstard who constantly ran the ball into traffic and ultimately lost it. He seems to be doing ok at Rangers, but that’s Scottish football……..
I suppose this begs the question of both LJ AND Warnock; Why loan a player, under those conditions, that you don’t intend to play? Kent did play a few games for us but was dropped relatively quickly and sent back to Liverpool with a bundle of BCFC cash. I don’t know of course, but from his body language he didn’t look like his heart was in it. He tried to be a ‘Billy Big Bollocks’ on the pitch and I remember watching the team - they would stop running as soon as Kent got the ball because there was no point in expecting a pass!!! I think the first 2 letters of his surname should be different I can imagine the dressing room; LJ - you need to be aware off your team-mates. Look up and make the pass. RK; Yeah whatever - you can’t drop me - it’s in the contract. LJ: I’m in charge and I pick the team RK: Yeah? Well I’m a Prem player in waiting. I didn’t want to come here and play with your shower anyway - Uncle Steve (Gerrard) has guaranteed me a place when he goes to Scotland anyway…. LJ: Well F off back to Liverpool then. You don’t belong in our team. RK: Well it’ll cost ya LJ: It’s not my money - now get out!
