Was not able to be at game yesterday (first home game missed al season!!). We need minimum of 16 points from 18 games. On Sir Neil's average point score, we might just have been able to do it. If Hughes can pull off five wins and three draws or the magic six wins and a few draws for safety then job done. It is looking possible but it will be one amazing ride until the season's end. All home games against lesser teams (such as our own) are now must wins. Of course there is the hope that we will turn over one more top team before end season?
It'll make you nervous if you look at it like that. Just look at it this way: We are not in the relegation zone. If we keep getting better results than the teams underneath us then we either stay above them or move further. So a good run could see us climb!
We need to bridge that 5 point gap to WBA, their win yesterday was a real downer as was Bolton's. The top sides have their fingers in so many pies that they will be vulnerable in some of their games against bottom five sides. We shouldn't write off our chances. The Villa match is a significant game and they've just signed Keane who has hit the ground running, a difficult game has become even more difficult now...
Our home form is key. Villa will be very difficult, but we must beat wolves at home. That is another 6 pointer.
Wolves seem to be doing better away than at home, that will be a tough one as well. Let's face it, there are no easy games...
No easy games. However, yesterdays performance was better than I first thought. I was at the game yesterday and was really pleased to get the win. On reflection it was a HUGE result. We scored 3 and should have had more. Bare in mind that the squad we had was the same one that struggled to a draw at MK Dons (JB excepted) and the win against Wigan looks even better. With a few decent signings, we will be OK.
Lets hope we have had our bad run, there are a few other teams who are going to hit the buffers ....stoke, everton (was hoping it might be villa, fulham or wba) and the teams below us are they going to hit real form (well Bolton might). It is truely in our own hands so I cannot see why we can't do it
Wins are vitally important, our three points yesterday was a real boost, conversely, if we had lost we would now be bottom, that's the fine line between staying up and going down. Draws, particularly against bottom half teams are not that helpful, every point is vital but getting all three makes such a difference. We've won 5 out of 22, we need another 5 wins and 3 draws from 16 games to reach the 38 point mark, the question is will that be enough?
It could have been AT LEAST 5, with HH missing a penalty, and a great Save from Al-Habsi to deny buzzzz Also, their only goal from a was from a free kick, the signs are looking good
38 points will be easily enough points, i think 36 will do it but 38 will be easily enough, going down will be wigan, wolves, blackburn or bolton
However, with Karl Henry's typical reaction yesterday, he'll be suspended for the game and maybe Joey can concentrate on playing rather than carrying on his 'feud' against him. Good news for us.
I know its obvious but we just need to have better results than three other teams. Looking at Wigan yesterday, Blackburn, Wolves and Bolton (I know they had a good result yesterday but I think that was a fluke) I cannot see these teams winning more games than us!
