If I were you, I'd be talking to immediate family rather than pixel nobodies.

All the best.

Well a depressive I know sees a therapist and takes numerous pills to stop the blues taking over his everyday life.

There's that list of six/seven criteria thingy to help you establish whether you really are depressed - includes stuff like whether you can still stomach and enjoy food, sleep at night, have feelings of self-loathing, et cetera.

Anyway, I don't really have a lot I can offer other than to wish you luck.

You need to talk to your people about it though. No embarrassment in having a disease.

Swamp, believe me when I say that friends and family are VITAL if you really are feeling like this. I'd strongly urge you to speak with whoever you are closest to, even if you ask them to initially keep it in confidence.

Mates on here can only do so much and offer a certain amount of advice but family can help so much more.

Apart from that, the only other advice I can give is for you re-watch Andy Campbell's goal in the play-off final or Bellamy's v the Jacks or best of all oyr demolition of the Wurzles at Ashton Gate!

FFS Swamp dont go on the anti depresant tablets and the others that make you sleep ,they are so addictive .

Try some herbal remedies first (not abers tho) ...................;O)

If you do sport swimming is a great relaxer and strong body ,strong mind .

Difficult thing to overcome at the best of times as its an inbalance in the brain and we have no control over it , those drugs the doctors throw at you is a def no no for me .

Wish you all the best M8 as i know a few in the same situation ,your not alone and its more common than people think .

Hi Swamp.
First of all, well done for identifying how you are feeling. That alone is a huge and brave undertaking mate.

Perhaps you could try and spend a bit of time to understand that depression is no longer the stigma that it used to be and that people these days are empathetic to sufferers.

In addition, try and get an understanding of the illness by visiting the NHS web site (DON'T GO TO ANY OTHERS!) and see what they might have to say about addressing your problem. Your doctor of course is your most reliable ally in this, and he/she will not look down at you for sharing your concern.

One thing is for sure, and that is that depression is curable and you most not lose hope. Some great people have come out the other side of this hateful condition and Stephen Fry is a great example.

And don't forget you have friends on here.

Good luck fella. <ok>

Its good to get it off your chest. Even if you are talking to an impersonal bunch of keyboard cowboys like us.

I like Brizzle's therapy to which you can add beller's goal from last Saturday.

Those of us who have commented do so because we want you to manage it and get on with your life.

Swamp, all I can suggest is speak to your GP about therapy but tell him you do not want to go the route of drugs. Sorry I can't help but please do see your GP and discuss options. Depression is a sad and lonely ailment and it's great you have identified you may be a sufferer of this ailment not take the next step and have a face to face conversation with you GP.
All the best fella, hope you get through this.

Hi Swamp
Bit of a bizarre coincidence but BBC sport/cricket are running a couple of pages on depression and it's an interesting read unless of couse the reader is a sufferer , try this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/19610923 dunno if this will help your condition but it will show that you are not alone in this world
all the best pal

Hi swamp. I'm also 20 and get depressed often, however I find doing a hobby helps, especially if it is a physical activity. I would also like to point out that at our age it is common for us to get depressed because we are still developing emotionally. If you are still getting depressed in your thirties (I know that's ages away) then I would advise to find medical help.
I can only speak from experience rather than from being educated in the matter. I'm here if you want a chat. We might be pixels but we are people on the other side.

Good luck :)

To assess whether you are depressed and how you should go about correcting things, it'd be best to first say why you're depressed, or, if you can't answer that, why you think you're depressed.

If you have a wife , look no farther for a start . Besides being your true soul mate , she would have a right to know . Between the two of you together , a new plan of attack won't seem so solitary an idea . Therapy after that , if needed , would seem the next action . Good luck swamp and never underestimate the power of relaxation & a trusted confidant . P.S Just wanted to add that getting rid of all the Swan fans on your board couldn't hurt !

Swamp I have nothing to add to all of what the others have said or nothing else of value other than to say all the best buddy and well done for taking what must have been a very difficult first step in posting this. We are all here for you and despite the fact we all don’t really know each other someone will always answer you when you need it.

Go take the next step buddy and seek some medical help and support.

You've done the biggest thing, that is to admit to depression. I've been there a few times and to ask for help is the start of coming to terms with it.

Your best mate through this could be your GP, he/she would have seen it all before so no need to feel uncomfortable.

A good brisk walk will help also a change of diet, fresh fruit & veg helps because they have vitamins & minerals.

Caffeine & Alcohol can be depressives.

Plain water will help to up your blood pressure.

First call should be your GP.
