Refs makes the rules up as they go along anyway , things will never change. It depends on the club, player, manager. What is a foul for one is not for another and so on. ****, man united got away with it for years during fergies era to the point it was laughable but at the same time basically accepted especially when playing them away as knew it was going to happen. I remember reading something years back about this research and united had on average and extra minute added on if the were losing or drawing.

Throw ins are a waste of time and effort. They always follow a set pattern, and almost invariably end up with the ball going back to the player throwing it, the only result generally being a using up of 20 - 30 seconds of time. Of course there are exceptions, if a team has a player who can throw the ball into the penalty area, but generally speaking there is no point in having them. They should be replaced by an indirect free kick from the touchline.

As a referee, the law that drives me nuts is handball. It causes so many bloody disputes on the pitch. I rarely give handballs and virtually never in the box so at least teams know where I stand.

Yes because I find it offensive that referees "make up rules as they go along".

No, I go by the letter of the law where handball has to be deliberate. So I stick to that when making my judgement. Which naturally means I hardly give handballs.

You've just stated you rarely give handballs , and hardly ever in the box because you're afraid it'll cause a dispute on the pitch. Weak refereeing that!

Come on SS, no need to resort to name calling. I said 'coffee spurt' not 'blood boil'. :)

I think Tom was fairly clear. He rarely gives handballs because the law states they have to be deliberate, not because they cause disputes.

I did not say I was afraid of disputes. I said I don't give very many handballs. By staying consistent teams know where I stand. Minimising disputes comes under "game management". By being consistent, players will accept my decisions. They may not agree but they can see I've got my stance on handball and respect that.

Handball is ridiculous at the moment, how many people intentionally handball it? Hardly any.

Leaving rules too much down to interpretation is what pisses me off as that's when you get huge inconsistencies... Same as the offside rule which is a mess too.

I was fine actually until he started it all off with his comment .Had someone dismissed his views like he did mine just now, he'd be crying about like a little bitch, like he always does. Just because he's a " referee" his views on related matters seem to be the only correct ones and everyone else is completely wrong, it gets on my tits.
