Early kick-off and televised the reasons I presume. What was Burnley's take up like for their end? Still surprised given 2nd versus 3rd and the huge importance of the game. Bet many are regretting it now. Missed it myself was en-route to NY at the time.
Looked like quite a bit of space in the Lower School End but with a televised early kick-off it was always likely...
Capacity now about 18,500. Lots of reasons for low attendance, early KO, on TV, and everyone is short of cash after Christmas.
Decent crowd and an unexpectedly good atmosphere. Congrats to Burnley who filled the top tier for a 12:15 televised away game 250 miles from home.
Not much below our average attendance. Have a look at this, I'm seriously impressed with brighton's following. http://espnfc.com/stats/attendance/_/league/eng.2/english-league-championship?cc=5739
That's a very poor attendance in my opinion, 2nd v 3rd = biggest game of the season so far, cameras or no cameras that should have been a sell-out. Your ground only holds 18,500 so shouldn't be that hard.
Clearly your average attendance of nearly 10,000 below capacity, in a city where you have no competition from other clubs (let alone 6 premiership clubs within about 10 miles, 2 within easy walking distance) is something to be very proud of for a team at the top of the league. Did the club over estimate its popularity when the stadium was built?
We also have Leicester Tigers who consistently get bigger crowds than QPR. If you want a bit of history, we moved into the stadium in 2002/03 having just been relegated 5 years finishing in the top 10 every year and won the cup twice under O'Neill so at that time we needed a bigger stadium to attract better players. Taylor then took us down and we've been outside the Prem for all but one season since. We'll get 32,500 in the Prem no problem but we never drop below 20,000 even for a midweek against Yeovil never mind a 2nd v 3rd clash!
There is quite literally nothing to do in Leicester, they are in the best form of their entire history and they still don't get as many in as Derby or Forest (or Leeds or Brighton) so I think it's fair to say that our overpriced stadium with thousands of restricted view seats isn't doing too badly in averaging just under 17000. One thing we are is consistent (call it loyal if you like) over many years. Some clubs have a range of attendances from 19000 to over 30000 in the space of weeks.
With a capacity of 18300 odd we are running at just under 92% capacity, whereas Leicester are running at just over 71% capacity based on a 32500 capacity. For a side in London with everything else going on in the capital, we are not doing too bad......
Best form of our history ha ha whatever mate only Man City have won this division more times than we have (we're one behind their seven) so for us win it again won't be too much of a huge achievement. Ok last six seasons attendances; 08/09 - L1 20,253 lowest 16,378 midweek v Scunthorpe 09/10 - CH 23,492 10/11 - CH 23,709 11/12 - Ch 23,036 12/13 - Ch 22,054 13/14 - CH 23,319 Leeds and Derby's have been higher but Derby sell cheap tickets every week to fill the ground (great idea by the way, as do Brighton so neither of them count) but apart from last season out attendances have been higher than Forest and are again this season. You don't have the stadium to go from 19,000 to 30,000 in the space of a few weeks so it's a bit silly commenting on that, you never know you could get more than 20,000 😄 And for the record, I wasn't wumming I was simply giving my opinion which you didn't like therefore considered it wumming? Have a word mate 👍
Where did you get that Leicester Tigers figure Arro? I know they are the biggest Union club in terms of support, but I'd be surprised if they averaged over 12 -13k. I live down the road in Leamington and have been a couple of times, for relatively big games. You're right about the cheap tickets. Fernandes has already said he plans to fill our new stadium (I hope to live to see us play there...) the same way he fills his planes - making the seats affordable.
What was your attendance vs Middlesbrough last season? Before you say it snowed, there were 400 M'boro fans there. This season they took 600 to Doncaster for a Friday TV game, and Doncaster is closer by about an hour?
It is the best form in your history- nine wins on the bounce. Your 'we never get below 20k not even Yeovil on a Tuesday night' comment doesn't make much sense when there were 19000 for Blackburn this season and a staggering 8585 for Middlesbrough last season. I think you'd have to go back quite a long way to find a league gate that low at Loftus Rd. And the point on the range of attendances is valid. Our crowds are very consistent despite playing across three divisions (once you factor in what away teams in the Prem bring). You are the only club in a whole city- 25,000 should be the norm regardless of form.
