9 points from relegation and 19 points from Europa place just about sums up our season and where we currently belong. We had 11 points from 14 games back in December and we got 34 points from the next 24 which means if Martin had been here all season, at 1.42 points per game average, we may well have had 54 points which would put us 8th.

I watched MoN today and at times he look exasperated and frustrated. He knows he has a job to do and is no fool. At the end he looked quite subdued walking around for the final lap and deep in thought.

I have a feeling that we have seen the last of a few players today and there will be 4 or 5 new faces before kick off in August.

This campaign is over now and we move on to 2012/13 season when it all starts again.

Recon a good few faces will be packing bags, as for thirteenth place, the week before MoN took over, I had the relegation blues setting in, big time.

Little bit disappointed our season tailed off at the end, but hey ho, what are we going to do.

Thought we would be there or there abouts in midtable. It'll do me this season, would lik to finish top half next season though, and witht he right signings I think we are capable of it.

    KTF, FTM etc etc

But..but we were not saying that only a few months ago...........

It's not very flattering is it?

But i can see the bigger picture, and now Mr O'Neil your true test is about to begin.

Worrying thing for me is, another end of season collapse.

11 from 14 games at the start
12 from 14 games at the end

    Middle was great though.

But everyone was saying it was Bruce, that was the problem for the end of season collapses, was it? as its happened again with a new manager.

    also

Players were crap, only Brown and a couple more were good at the start.
Middle great manager, players are not that bad, we have a decent squad, was Bruce who didnt know what to do with them.
End = not MONs fault, **** players that bruce bought.

**** knows what the actual answer is, but hopefully next season we can be consistent all year through, and not bad consistent.

Bit of tinkering certainly needed. Content enough though with how the season went.

Hit the nail on the head mate. My thoughts on your season almost exactly, I think the criticism of Bruce was unfair.

I look forward to opening up the gap even further than 20 points next year <whistle>

You cant blame MoN for failing with Bruces team. That he stopped a certain rot and achieved safety from a very perilous postion, with weeks to spare, is good enough for this season imo.

However, like everyone, I want to see much improvement next season and Martin will be judged fully from August.

There will be big changes at Sunderland over the summer. I honestly can see a huge overhaul of players going and coming.

The last few months have shown MON that this team is s**t.

Seriously these are the only players I can see starting next season...

    ...............Mignolet..........
    Bardo...Brown.....OShea....??
    ???.......Colback..???.....McClean
    .......?????.........??????...........

So that is 5 players we need to start with for the starting 11. Some players a good for back up.

But the likes of Elmo (who was s**t as usual), Bramble, Richo, Gardner are in trouble and soon could be out the door.

I am disappointed with 13th, thought we could of got top 10.

However I am glad in a way we finished 13th - it now shows MON and the fans how poor our team really is. MON excellence covered this up for a few months.

I can fully see where your coming from, but Bruce got 10th last season, and I'm not saying he would have, but who knows if he might have got you a similar position again given a full season.

    Don't be.
Only two draws or one win away actually from getting it when in fact SB had us looking like dead certs for a relegation battle & we ended up safe in February.
No disappointment from me. We live to fight the next season in the top division.

Our season tailed off after the defeat to Everton in the Quarter final, and once we had reached that magical '40' points. After that I reckon the lads had already decided how to spend their millions and were already thinking about it. Something MoN will have to get rid of.

Come off it kidda. You just wanted to see us suffer under Bruce. If had lost the players and the fans and was a pitiful sight during games. The situation was critical and were it not for Mon, we would have been cattle trucked.

We would have been fortunate to have finished 17th under Bruce. That's a fact.

Poor finish to the season as having no strikers caught up with us. Thought yesterday might have been a sign of things to come with Sess on one wing and McClean on the other and a striker (albeit Campbell) up front we looked better balanced.

Does anyone know why Bendtner and Cattermole were not playing??? I am not sorry that Bendtner is gone but I would have played him yesterday, personally I would sell Catts (or is that just me)?
