We need boots on the ground.....in every neighbourhood....all over the world .Never owned a gun before I was in the army , never owned one after I got out ....that is till a few months ago.The West can't can't hide within it's borders anymore .Time to change the rules , defending the freedom of democracy is killing it.Time to fight evil with more high tech evil .We can lose lives watching terrorism , or we can lose lives fighting it .We need our own sneak attacks in Iraq , Syria and not just planes. Its WW 3 folks , has been for a while

Or we could just use the nukes. It would instantly solve our deficit issue. Either way, the West has constantly poked it's nose in the Middle East/Arab world. This is the result of US led foreign policy in some respects. They supported the Arab Spring and the fight against the Assad regime in Syria. ISIS was the result of this.

Although it has some bearing It's a lot more complicated than that I'm afraid .We've allowed our principles to become eroded in the name of diversity and freedom of movement and no where in the world is safe from this ideology ,it maybe just festering under the surface but theres enough out there with a twisted idea of how their faith is interpreted to see this escalating to much more than we can possibly imagine .Hitler created a world war and took in a nation with his promises and actions this is far worse ,the enemy is within and that is far greater to counter than a man in a uniform .

Violence accomplishes nothing, creates nothing except heartache and more conflict. Us humans are making a right screw up aren't we?

I agree with Matthew above. The enemy is now from within. The men spoke fluent French today and that's even more sickening for me. They may have even been born in France. I'm against the death penalty usually but even though it may not deter the terrorists justice demands that these murderous thugs pay with their lives and anyone found guilty of terrorism or even plotting it should hang. They want to be martyrs so let's help them along. Let's call it Terrorist Euthanasia.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but just look at places such as `Luton ,english born some 3rd generation immigrants who slowly and insidiously are radicalising the youth of their communities ,these people are the future of our country and unless we counteract the threat they pose then we have no future .We allow them freedom of speech to abuse and threaten our communities and to attack our freedom at no cost to theirs .I'm surprised that anyone is surprised that the men involved today spoke in a French accent ,that is the problem we have in a multicultural society, we all look and act the same in public but behind closed doors there are a lot of evil people plotting our demise .

I'm not surprised these murderers were apparently French Muslims, Matthew. Weren't the 7/7 bombers all British born? Think that's right. I can only give an opinion and mine is the fact that these people are born in the country they attack or at least have been given safe haven there makes it more disgusting, at least for me. You're right Matthew in that our principles of free speech allow these horrible people to flourish.

No I don't believe that violence accomplishes anything in itself. This act won't either and will rebound on Muslims throughout France, even those who condemn it. Already French cartoonists are putting out satirical images of Mohammed which is exactly the opposite of what the gunmen wanted.

Western Governments will not be able to defeat this with a military solution, you are dealing with radical religious idiots. What will defeat it is the destruction of religion, but that is a pill that world leaders have so far avoided, but they will in the end have to bite this bullet...........<ok>

The entire Islamic gene pool has been rendered genetically inferior, due to thousands of years of inbreeding and arranged marriages to cousins. From generations of arranged marriages where cousins marry cousins and produce inbred offspring, you now have literally stupid Islamic people with an IQ average of around 70, or lower in most cases. Some of you reading this might think I'm talking rubbish but do your research and you will find that this post is indeed FACT. THESE ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS IDIOTS ARE TRULLY STUPID!!.............<ok>

PS: Intelligence (IQ) in Britain is 100 (average) ranking before Russia who got 97.

When you have a combination of (1) a demonic ideology (2) Stupid people (3) weapons, then you have a recipe for disaster, which can only be matched by the IQ at westminster? So the bottom line is be vigilant, because your Government is full of IDIOTS, that will be of no help to you or me........<ok>

They'd rather be rotting corpses sitting with their harem in paradise than provide a safe world for their children, wives and family to grow up in. Instead they see fit to oppress, terrorize and ruin anyone or anything that wants to exercise even a shred of free will. In their version of Islam, the only free will is the decision you make to submit to their "religion" or submit to ultimate death.

I hesitate to make a blanket statement against Islam in its entirety but knowing that it evolved from Ishmael, the rejected, outcast other son of Abraham--cultivated by the false prophet Muhammad, who, believe it or is the forefather of "thug life," it is exceptionally difficult to avoid tying these extremists in with the religion as a whole. My knowledge that there exists two versions of the Quran--the westernized version that people tout as the "book and religion of peace," and the true, authentic untranslated version that is really practiced, well, it can't be ignored. There are two versions and these extremists read the word of the real one.

Anyone here who has never watched a stoning--one with both a man and a woman in it... should. Do it now. Look it up online. Try liveleak. I have seen footage on there that sent chills through my whole body.

And all this is for what? For an Islamic State? This violence will solve what?

I know it might be cliche and a tad bit over-quoted, but Carl Sagan's words are appropriate now for sure,

    quote:
From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known, so far, to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment, the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

Just thought I'd past this up, makes so much sense to me, found it on my cyber travels............<ok>

While everyone should indeed to be sickened and outraged by these attacks, what stands out for me is that when such atrocities are committed by Western troops there is next to no outrage at all. Western troops can kill thousands of civilians, drop bombs on innocent wedding parties, torture innocent people, lock up innocent people for years without charge, no one bats an eyelid. The USA helped create ISIS, so what do people really expect. Do you think that Western troops can just invade any country they want, kill and torture whoever they want and have no consequences?

I'm also all fro freedom of speech, but with that come responsibility. It seems some sections of the press live to goad people that take their religion seriously. Why? You are free to call your wife/husband a fat, ugly bastard, but where will that get you? When they explode one day, what will you do? Proclaim your right to free speech. Of course we should be allowed to speak out against things, but we should also respect other people's views and religions.
