I'll go first! It looked like, after a difficult start last season, that he found the right balance, the team were cohesive & playing for one another. After being written off completely, it was a remarkable survival story. Then close season comes, this is where crucial mistakes were made & lessons were not learned. Seb gets a new deal, while better players leave, the recruitment looks like it has all the hallmarks of a DoF. So 12 months on what have you got.....an older Wes Brown & Jonny O'yey. D'OH
I'm very happy with Gus after the year. Things take time to build so it's going to be a work in progress for sometime yet. In many ways he's had to deal with the cards he was given. He inherited four strikers that have struggled to get goals so to me that is a big one to sort out going because this department normally defines how succesful any stay at a club would be. I would have preferred after Gus's miracle last season for Ellis to have given him total control instead of the DOF appointment. Sir Fergie didn't have one and I suppose he is the yardstick that all manager try to emulate. Yes we had a recent set back with the Southampton result but it was virtually the same team that won against Stoke. Prior to that game I think we had the second best defensiove record in the league. Wheels fell off a bit but overall still think we look more solid then last year. I believe we will be fine and continue our slow progress to where we need to be. With Gus only maybe one or two slight points where I feel he could do something in my eyes. Giving someone like Mavrias or Watmore 20 to 30 mins in games would be one of them. It would just give the youth system a bit of a boost.... So in my humble opinion in marks out of 10 for the first year would be a nine......will never forget the miracle....
All depends where you want the club to be, I think he's a decent enough manager, but I don't think he gets the support he should regarding new players, or he doesn't have a clue what o look for. The past couple of weeks have shown that the tean has'nt really inproved, in fact may have gone backwards slightly. Yes, on occasion there is some decent football, but, that's no good if we are'nt winning games. Has he done enough to keep the job, then I'm afraid it's no from me, I'm really sorry about that as I think he is a good man who will one day be a top european manager, but, I don't think he's the man for Sunderland & to be honest, I don't know who is!

Steve McQueen - Asks for opinions but seems very reluctant to give an opinion. So I'm going to say "meh" to the thread
He posted this thread after posting a few comments of sack Gus about the board. He's this year Mr Knee Jerk Wum. He hasn't got red bars for nowt.
He kept us in the league against the odds, hhe wants to play attractive pasaing game and hes given us an identity. Unfortunately he wasnt supported adequately when it came to player recruitment and its showing now. If you have a car that against all odds makes it over the finish line you dont just pop a little petrol in it before the next race, you spend a bit of money on it and fix it properly. This didnt happen. Only a diastrous 5 to 6 game losing streak would see him lose his job any time soon.though
The difference between what should have been a steady start to the season, and one which seems to have many of our supporters in a flap, has been a few shocking errors at the back and an unforgivable refereeing decision at Southampton when we were still well in the game.. No need for change at all, and I'm genuinely surprised that it has even been talked about..
Bit different, Di Canio came in with 7 games to go to put a rocket up the players arses. Hes a loon who was out of his depth and completely lost the dressing room and rightly got axed before it was too late.
I personally think it's ridiculous to even doubt it. He is good enough to be given a few years I think. If we keep changing with every low period we will never progress long term. He is struggling ATM but we should have learned our lesson by now.
He needs sent on a media handling course, he needs to slap Congerton in the face, and he needs to convince Ellis to splurge another £20 million or so in Jan. Despite the tough recent weeks, he retains my absolute and unconditional support, I refuse to put a timescale on this though....
Agree with the media handling course. I really like the bloke but some of the **** he comes out with in interviews is just ****ing weird.
Marcus, its a bit boring if we all just agree with each other. I think its a pretty fair question to ask, as much his style of play/tactics as anything else. You may have chosen to forget Cattermole (and others to be fair to him) getting caught in possession a few times last season resulting in soft goals. I don'i think this constant square ball style suits us, and if he insists on playing it when we are getting no where with it, then it would be Moyes or even Pulis for me. As some say, it may work I'm Europe but you don't get that luxury of time in the Premier League. Its disappointing Gus can't see this. Good luck with the record by the way
Second that, we should still at least 10mil from the non-purchase of that lad from Liverpool. Not sure about the Congerton thing though as GP has claimed he has final say in players bought.
