I'm sure some have already seen this in the news cycle and I assume many will find this abhorrent, but there are rumours Elon Musk will bankroll Reform to the tune of $100m (£80m) in the next election using his UK based office. This would be an unprecedented amount of funding in British politics.

Some have called for a change of the rules around political funding. Any thoughts? Good, bad or otherwise.

There comes a time when donations become bribes and political manipulation ...

... if Musk was Russian or Chinese there'd be hell on but people seem taken in by the likes of Musk.

Put me down as a 'bad'.

To be fair though, Musk has done well since the early days <laugh>

Scares me. Looks like he’s bought his way into USA influence-bad enough - but worrying that he could persuade our MP s to his wishes

That is a lot of pairs of specs, Starmer gutted <laugh>

In all seriousness I think Musk is a dangerous fella. He has all kinds of influence and he seems to be developing a certain political leaning. I wouldnt normally advocating changing rules, just because the next bloke to take advantage is a wrong un, but in this case I would. Musk and Farage :emoticon-0107-sweat

Farage is not very bright. If he became pm he would be shredded.

The rich elite funding a party which claims to be fighting the rich elites.

The truth is that we are heading towards autocracy, with a very few very rich men manipulating democracy to their own ends.

Farage would be even worse than Boris if he got the top job.

They're both effective campaigners, who covet power, but don't have the depth to actually do the job.

Farage's rhetoric is 90% criticism of everyone else and 10% vague promises of grandiose solutions.

As you say he's a wealthy man born into wealth who pretends to be one of the lads ...

    ... it's all quite horrific.

Trump, Farage and Putin as world leaders, God help us all.

Great news Starmer must be thinking oh **** and the tories are thinking we are gone.
I'd rather have musks money than bent union money.
All of a sudden the two so called big parties want to change the rules after years of them taking back handers.

The betting says it all. Reform are continuing to close the gap pretty much daily. This was announced about Musk last week and a lot of money was placed on Reform then and their odds come right in. They’re now consistently polling over 20%.

Politics is finished in the UK. The political landscape has changed and it’s now a propaganda contest on social media. It only gets worse from here on in.

The Shamocracy at work as it has been for many years.

I don't really see this as a great deal different to Rowling doing it with the Tories or the Unions doing it with labour or whoever else.

Private money entering the electoral system seems overwhelmingly problematic to me.

The entire system is built of crooked values unfortunately.

It feels like the start of a new world order. Trump brown nosing up to Musk seems to be a vital cog in the grand plan. Trump seems to Ok with Putins ambitions, If Farage can secure power in the UK with the help Musks Billions then all is needed is Xi Jinping to jump on board then as Smug says...Go help us all.

To be fair it has always been this way and probably always will be this way, in people's minds the distinction is in the clash of values. Do you want Larry Fink to offer free hormones to kids or Elon Musk to ban estrogen pills, people will choose what they feel is right.

I don't think so. I'm not a hundred percent sure about Greece but it was certainly this bad in Rome with the Patricians.

Democracy is just an illusion, bright and sunny window dressing for something far darker.

It has been for a long time, it depends what flavour you want, the great grandchild of a russian bolshevik or the great grandchild of a south african diamond mine owner? They're both american billionaires today vying for power.
