This Friday will be 100 years since Charlton Athletic played football at the Valley. Plenty of ups plenty of downs
South-east turnstiles for me, and standing where the screen is now, with other assorted oddballs and characters who all had their own crush barrier.
My crash barrier was the one just behind the away goal just in front of the toilet block.... well I say toilet block it was a blockwork square (no roof) and you urinated up the far wall..... Sorry FHB I meant the South turnstiles... about 5 of them down the dirt track behind what is now the JS Stand.
I see 1,000 memories when I walk into the Valley... From escaping nagging wives to eating spam fritters ....”peanuts” on the old East Terrqce to on the pitch for the Fan’s sofa
I often used to park in the dirt-track. It was handy for a quick getaway on Friday evenings when I worked as a seafood salesman for a year.
I worked at the seafood stall at the Kings Arms Greenwich and at the Cutty Sark on bank holidays ,Marvelous times
