This has been mentioned on the Southampton board. They have 19 straight home wins now in a row & good luck to them as when you get talking to them they are a canny bunch. Anyhow, I asked if anyone had ever gone a whole season with a 100% win at home record. Apparently, we were the first side to do it, albeit back in 1891-92 season. I think that was even before Syd's time. LOL.
in the promotion season 1976 from the second division to the first division we won all but 2 games and they were daws to the 2 bristol sides
What's a win?? I haven't seen one yet this season - missed the Stoke game cos of the Great North Run and away games are too many pennies for me to attend!
100% home win record in a season: Sunderland (13 games; First Division, 1891–92) Liverpool (14 games; Second Division, 1893–94) Bury (15 games; Second Division, 1894–95) Sheffield Wednesday (17 games; Second Division, 1899–1900) Small Heath (17 games; Second Division, 1902–03) Brentford (21 games; Third Division South, 1929–30) well done not many done it and only 2 teams have went the whole season unbeaten Fewest losses: 0, joint record: Preston North End (First Division, 1888–89; final record P22 W18 D4 L0) Preston were also unbeaten in the FA Cup Arsenal (Premier League, 2003–04; final record P38 W26 D12 L0)
Southampton need to win their next 6 home games to break the record for consecutive home wins which was set by Bradford Park Avenue in 1926-27 season. The way they are playing at home this is a distinct possibility. Might pop down the bookies in the morning to see what odds are on offer for that. May well be worth a daft fiver.
That's why they have 'INVINCIBLE' on their club badge. To me, that's the proudfest club badge in the world because it was earned on the pitch..
i was told many years ago sunderland went as much as 81 home games with one defeat some where in the middle can some one confirm
aye i read about that the name invincibles was giving to them by blackburn as a sneer read it on wiki interesting stuff
Most consecutive wins: 14, joint record: Arsenal (Premier League between 10 February 2002 and 24 August 2002) Manchester United (Second Division, 1904–05) Bristol City (Second Division, 1905–06) Preston North End (Second Division, 1950–51) Most consecutive league games without a loss: 49, Arsenal (Premier League, 7 May 2003 to 24 October 2004) some good crack on here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_records_in_England
Aye but as I said in post number 12, Bradford Park Avenue have the record for consecutive HOME wins, 24. Southamptons next 6 home games are all very winnable & if they do they will break the record. Dunno what odds the bookies are offering but it should be canny. Mind you if I stick the bet on I'll probably jinx the poor ****ers. Edit: Next 6 home games, Brighton Hull Blackpool Bristol C Leicester Cardiff.
