http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spor...nderland-afc-domestic-loan-available-8527438? By this time next week the transfer window will be shut and Sunderland, along with every other Premier League side, will know the squad they have to work with between now and the end of the season. Gus Poyet has adopted a 3-5-2 formation since Jermain Defoe’s arrival, but it hasn’t had the positive impact Poyet and the fans will have hoped for just yet. Of course, it is a new system to the players so perseverance may be the key to getting it right. There is an issue with the side being a bit light in numbers though and, despite Poyet saying that he didn’t expect any more signings this month, they can still dip into the loan market. Here are ten potential domestic-based loans the Stadium of Light outfit could look at in the last six days of the window. 1. Aaron Lennon It is widely believed that the pacey winger will leave Spurs this month after falling out of favour under manager Mauricio Pochettino. Last week a national newspaper claimed Hull, West Brom and Stoke were interested in the midfielder but also named Sunderland as a potential suitor. A former teammate of Defoe, Lennon also knows Poyet from their time together under Juande Ramos and so there are connections there to make the deal possible. However it’s claimed he wants a permanent move – and Spurs want £10million. Incredibly, he’s still only 27 but that price for a player not considered part of the plans is a bit ridiculous. As the window winds down expect Spurs to resign themselves to less or potentially even a loan with an option to buy, and if so Sunderland might swoop. 2. Mohammed Salah Action Images / Jed Leicester please log in to view this image Mohamed Salah of Chelsea The Salah to Sunderland rumours started before this month’s window even began. The fast Egyptian winger would likely be a good fit at right wing back or just behind the front two on Wearside and would certainly offer Sunderland more flair and pace. The will-he-wont-he saga seemed to be over two weeks ago when QPR manager Harry Redknapp (also interested in him) declared he was not available. However, it now seems Chelsea are trying to use Salah in a deal with Fiorentina to bring Juan Cuadrado to Stamford Bridge. Should that fall through the Black Cats could do worse that reinvigorate their interest in him. 3. Scott Sinclair Where did it all go wrong for young Sinclair? After a fantastic season at Swansea in their first top flight campaign he secured a move to mega-rich Manchester City and starred at the Olympics for Team GB, meaning calls came for an England chance. Since then his career has completely stalled at Eastlands due to lack of opportunities. He spent all of last season on loan at West Brom but failed to make an impact – making just eight league appearances and spending most of his time with the reserves. Quite what wrong is anybody’s guess, as the deal should have been perfect to get the 25-year-old’s career back on track. This certainly isn’t selling a potential loan move for the English winger very well, but taking a punt on the player for six month in the hope he rediscovered his Swansea form would surely be worth it. 4. Adnan Januzaj PA Wire please log in to view this image Adnan Januzaj Another player to leave you questioning just what what happened. Januzaj was a shining light in an otherwise dull campaign for Manchester United last season. The 19-year-old Belgian international put on a show at the Stadium of Light too, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory. But has found his opportunities limited under new boss Louis van Gaal. PSG were reportedly warned off by the Red Devils for the youngster but would van Gaal look more favourably towards a loan to a Premier League club he is unlikely to move permanent to? Of course, that is a turn-off for Black Cats fans with most showing frustration in the past of being unable to turn loan deals in to permanent ones. 5. Ravel Morrison This would likely be controversial, not least because of the fact that Newcastle turned him down this month. Despite all of Morrison’s off-field troubles though, he is undoubtedly talented on the pitch when in the right frame of mind, so could Newcastle’s loss be Sunderland’s gain? A move to London from Manchester United - away from his friends - was supposed to be what made the career of the midfielder who Sir Alex Ferguson admired but could not control. It hasn’t worked there either though, and there are reports of a switch to Lazio in the summer when his contract expires. That is yet to go through, so could Sunderland jump in and hijack the deal? Given that Morrison probably has this one chance to turn his career around before likely being untouchable, it may be worth the risk. 6. Jonny Evans On to defensive options now and Evans is someone who Sunderland know well from two previous loan spells on Wearside. Evans first came as a young player when Sunderland were in the Championship and helped the team win the title under Roy Keane. After at first turning down the chance to come back, he eventually did in the January, once more playing an instrumental role as Keane’s side avoided relegation. Since then he has gone back to the North West and has done well at Manchester United, albeit without ever really establishing himself as the long-term successor to Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic that it was hoped he would be. Now 27, Evans has struggled with injuries and will likely struggle for game time under van Gaal now that Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are getting back to fitness. The defender is out of contract next summer and in a Manchester Evening News poll 63 per cent of the near-6,000 fans who voted, said they’d prefer to see Evans sold. A loan back to Sunderland could likely lead to a good deal being made in the summer.
7. Paddy McNair please log in to view this image Patrick McNair of Manchester United competes with Adam Armstrong of Newcastle United Another option from Manchester United is 19-year-old Northern Irish centre-back Paddy McNair. McNair has been thrust in to United’s first team this season after a spate of injuries left them short at the back, and the inexperienced defender has made nine appearances in the league. And despite his lack of games, the Red Devils won all four of his first four starts as he proved – with the odd nervy moment – that he had some class about him. Now that other defenders are returning to fitness van Gaal may look for McNair to get more Premier League experience elsewhere and, after the success of Evans, Wearside may be a good fit. Should Sunderland be satisfied with taking him for six months with no realistic option to sign him permanently after though? 8. Younes Kaboul This wouldn’t be the first time the Spurs defender was linked to a move to the Stadium of Light. Roy Keane agreed a fee with the club for the defender in 2008, only for his agent to say he wouldn’t join Sunderland ‘even in an earthquake’. Those comments are unlikely to be forgotten by the red and white faithful but a few good performances at the club would likely lead to a short, selective memory. Kaboul is out of favour at White Hart Lane and, like the aforementioned Lennon, will likely be available this month. Kaboul is a leader and a very strong experienced centre-back. Would Sunderland fans be willing to forgive and forget to welcome him? 9. Nathan Ake 2012 Getty Images please log in to view this image Nathan Ake of Chelsea Another young starlet this time in the Chelsea ranks is young Dutch defender Ake. The 19-year-old is on the verge of breaking into Chelsea’s squad but has made just four appearances after Jose Mourinho blocked a loan move away in the summer. Now though, the ‘Special One’ may look a bit more favourable to his young prospect gaining first team Premier League experience. He is versatile - which is obviously helpful in today’s game - able to occupy full-back and defensive midfield positions as well as his more natural centre-back position. He has been praised for his work-ethic and professionalism in the past. 10. Dedryck Boyata The Belgian defender came through the ranks at Man City but has failed to establish himself at the club that has a track record for signing players over developing them from their youth team. Boyata has been a victim of this policy and now, at 24, may have to move on if he is to make something of his career. The chance to play regularly at Sunderland should be attractive to him and a six-month loan would give the Black Cats the chance to take a good look at him before deciding whether to make the deal permanent in the summer. With less than a week to go, Sunderland will have to act quick, but given the opportunity they have to add to their squad this month, it seems silly if they don’t at least try. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Think out of these most people would favour Januzaj or Salah However looking at defensive problems for Summer would Boyata or Evans not be a better one to go for? Agree with the last sentence though, we have to be at least looking at using it
I agree Indi we need to be looking at using it but, if we don;t, the only people that will know whether we tried and failed are the club - Salah, Maybe Janusaj (not sure his attitude is right for us), Evans - any of them would be a good shout. We need reinforcements! If we don;t get anyone in then it could be down to a number of reasons - possibly the loan deal does not suit or the owning club could be asking for too much. No-one knows all in all! Just want to get on with the season now though.
Evans won't be available unless we bring in a centre half. Nobody at United by the way is questioning 'just what happened' to Januzaj. It's obvious he isn't going to thrive in a LWB role and that's the only role Van Gaal can currently offer him with his rigid 3-5-2 farce. I'd prefer him to be out on loan getting games whilst Van Gaal fannies around with this awful formation.
We've no room for wide attacking players in this system. It needs at least two central attacking players behind the front two imo, Gus played none against fulham. This system will be fine if he bounces between this and the old one depending on the fixture but I don't think he will, it will be this for season now. He'll try to wedge AJ central when available. In regards to Januzaj he'll get limited game time here as he won't fit this system and when he does play he'll be wedged in out of position too. You don't want the lad here mate, trust me.
The kid would rip defenders apart in a false 9 position, I hate that Van Gaal doesn't play him because he's a 'winger' and he won't work in his 3-5-2. I'd happily drop Mata for Adnan and let the kid flourish in a false 9 instead of having Mata lurking in that no 10 role, Mata loses the ball way too often for my liking, in dangerous positions. Coming in with a formation that makes your most promising star redundant, then you spend the entire season dipping into the youth team for 'cover' just to play your 'philosophy'. It's pissing me off mate.
I'd like to see him inside forward in our old system. If Gus is prepared to be more adaptable and switch between the two he'd be a welcome addition.
I reckon Salah out of that bunch would have an impact no matter where Gus played him. The most gifted in that list is Ravel Morrison, without a doubt. I hope the kid sorts himself out. If he goes to Lazio and keeps his head down he'll go right to the top, unfortunately, so far, he's been a giant ****.
Problem is with most of the attacking options up there is they're strongest in wider positions and the only wide players in our new system are wing backs. Without knowing what Gus plans to do I can't really say which area to strengthen. It's a tricky question. Don't know a lot about Salah other than he's a highly rated prospect.
I reckon there'll be a lot of movement the last 48 hours, still time for Anderson to be loaned out yet fingers crossed!
Don't think we'll do anything unless Cabral or Graham are loaned out. If Graham is loaned out then it's a striker we need.
Well i'm not alone mate Sunderland fans would most like to see Aaron Lennon and Jonny Evans join this month 28 January 2015 06:30 PM Craig Johns With less than a week left of the transfer window, Aaron Lennon and Jonny Evans proved the most popular loan options for Sunderland fans please log in to view this image Tottenham Hotspur's Aaron Lennon in action Sunderland fans would love to see both Aaron Lennon and Jonny Evans join the club in the last week of the January transfer window. With the Black Cats still having an option to bring in a domestic-based player on loan, we drafted up a list of ten potential candidates who the club could turn to. And after fans voiced their opinions on the poll of who they would most prefer, it was Tottenham winger Lennon who topped the fans’ wishlist with 27% of the votes. please log in to view this image Five most popular poll options Just one per cent behind Lennon though, was former two-time loanee on Wearside Jonny Evans of Manchester United. The pair ran out clear winners of the poll with Adnan Januzaj, also of Manchester United, the closest to the pair with 17 per cent of the votes. It would seem likely that Lennon will definitely leave White Hart Lane if a deal can be struck for the pacey winger – a former team-mate of new Black Cats signing Jermain Defoe – but Spurs actually prefer a permanent transfer over a temporary one. Perhaps the club could negotiate a price for Lennon, allowing them to also bring Evans back to the Stadium of Light on loan. Evans’ contract at Old Trafford runs out in the summer of 2016, so it is likely that after a loan spell until the end of this season, a deal could be made to make his move a permanent one. At the other end of the popularity scale was Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair, who didn’t receive a single vote from fans. please log in to view this image Least popular poll options At Swansea, Sinclair was one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League but he has struggled at City, and also failed to reignite his career on loan at West Brom last season. Sunderland fans were also not so keen on defenders Paddy McNair (1%), Nathan Ake (2%) and Younes Kaboul (2%), with troubled-midfielder Ravel Morrison also not sparking excitement among the red and white faithful.
