I asked this question during the crazy nasri-period....as I expect it to happen every time there is one year left on a players contract. Now I read Van Persie, Walcott, Arshavin, Djourou and Vermaelen all have 1 year left from this summer......if this is true, that is crazy!! Imagine if we had to sell Van Persie and Vermaelen ... then we really could be the new Leeds....
The mirror are running a scare story that we'll have to sell RVP, Vermaelen, Walcott and Arshavin because next season they'll be in the last year of their contracts. To be perfectly honest, I think Wenger and the board will work to try and tie them all down to new contracts. There was nothing we could do about Nasri - he wanted to line his pockets elsewhere.
If you secure CL footy for next season, you have a good chance of holding onto at least most of those players. If you don't... I imagine it will be the same for us and the likes of Modric and Bale. Have the stakes been any higher for clubs like ours?
By the way, The Metro is reporting that Walcott has met with Arsene to tell him that he wants to play as a striker rather than a winger. Now, we all suspect that that is where he will play his best football, but what do you make of Wazza's brazen approach to the Gaffer? He'd never have had the balls to do that in the past. Do you think that the players sense that Wenger is weakened and able to be manipulated? I cannot imagine for one moment that Wenger will take too kindly to be told by one of his young kids how to set the team up. It's going to hurt his pride. Then again, all Walcott has to do is make it clear that he won't be renewing his contract this season, and he has Wenger over a barrel. Same with RvP and the others, too.
To be fair though for once the article seem more 'Pro Wenger' than anti. (which has certainly been the case with the Sun is recent weeks)
hopefully talks have begun in earnest about securing the contracts of those with 2 years left on their contracts..... Silent Stan has a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We cannot afford for RVP to get to the last year of his contract, if rumours are to beleived he has 2 years left....
The Mirror are stirring up more **** today regarding this issue. "Dutch forward Robin van Persie has warned Arsenal he is not ready to sign a new deal." http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...uts-contract-talks-on-hold-article804303.html
