'Tis indeed. I'm not moaning, before one of you tarts says something, I'm just pointing out that sixth with the same number of points as the team in third does not mean we are joint-third.
It means they've done nothing more than us. At the end of the season it won't come down to goal difference, it's a race tio get the most points and we're joint third at that.
Don't understand what's weird about judging the teams on points. We've got the same points as 3rd, 4th and 5th. I'm repeating myself but how is that weird logic? GD is never going to really matter is it so why start putting ourselves down just cos of that?
What's that meant to mean? We're sixth. If the season ended now we don't play-off with those on the same points for third place. We'd finish sixth, simple as, because the other teams HAVE done more than us... they've scored more and/or conceded less! At the moment we're sixth, not joint third... it's what that "6" means next to "Hull City" in the table. Great position though, don't misinterpret this as a negative post. I think the biggest plus from todays results was Birmingham drawing as they were much more in it than most people realise... especially as they're the game in hand that we need to win for a boost up the table! We'd be "real" 3rd if we won that as things stand
I'm not putting us down, I'm saying how are we joint-third? Anybody with more than a basic knowledge of football knows that it isn't just points that matter, and that GD does count. If GD says we are sixth, we are sixth. Not joint-third, sixth. Sixth is a remarkable achievement in my opinion, but I'm not going to exaggerate by saying we are performing even better than we are.
We're only joint on points because there's hardly been any games yet, obviously as the season goes on gaps will open and there is no chance of there being 4 teams on the same number of points, it's almost impossible. If the season did only last 12 games then yes GD would be very important but after 46 games it isn't going to matter one bit.
Hull are joint third. If Manchester United and Man City were 1st and 2nd on shared points it's referred to as joint top. However one team will be ahead on goal difference so the same principal applies. Stop being pedantic guys. We won!! UTT
You are really being pedantic guys. If the season ended now... Yeah, we know it would be sorted on goal difference. But you all knew full well what he meant. It's a hell of a lot quicker to type we're joint third, than typing 'we're in sixth place but only held off third spot by goal difference' It's not like the guy was suggesting that GD doesn't exist. We are joint third as in we are level on points with the team in third.
Who gives a f**k. We have just beaten Forest on their patch and we're at the right end of the table and playing solid football. Why not discuss that instead of trivialities.
It's actually quicker to type "Sixth" than any of the above... and we are sixth! If it WAS joint third the table would read: 1st 2nd 3rd 3rd 3rd 3rd 7th But it doesn't does it? Call us pedantic if you want... I couldn't care less, but at least I'm right! It's a completely relevant point to make as well! We might be 3rd if it weren't for our recent lack of goals. We still haven't destroyed anyone yet and there were loads of threads about this over the last few weeks. It may even come back to haunt us at some stage, no-one knows... And how won't things finish on goal difference exactly? Do you know what the lottery numbers are going to be?
Who's making it a big deal? I'm going to make my point, that's what this place is for. I think it's a relevant point to make and it's not being negative whatsoever. We're top of the form table with a game in hand over everyone above us and on an amazing unbeaten run with great home form. But we're not third in the table. It's a simple point. Jeez, if this is how you react to a fairly simple and light-hearted debate god knows what your reaction would be to something more important! You must've been a wreck during our second prem season!
