No away goal. We can sit back and soak up their attacks and play on the counter. Also is it me or are the players more nervous when they play at home? There is some strange feeling around the Emirates now.

So nervy and uncertain around the Emirates right now... feels strange and different. Something is missing, even a little solidity is desperately need right now in the form of a Fabregas replacement. We need a few wins desperately to improve confidence and improve the general atmosphere surrounding the club. However I must say... and touch wood, our defence has not conceded despite looking shaky tonight, one positive.

  4. Yes the defence seems more effective and that is both a blessing and a relief. I agree though that it is a nervous time and even towards the end, one sensed it might possibly end in a draw and how often have we been down this way over the past two years. Additions are desperately needed in the form of a creative element to help us up front and a little more solidity beginning possibly with a DM or CB. And no more injuries please.....

I'm worried about next week. Unless we have some new signings, i can't see things going so well. I thought Udinese would be a pushover. On the other hand, thank god we didn't get Lyon.

We couldn't get Lyon, we were both seeded.

If we start winning trophies under 'boring boring arsenal' I would take it.

Seriously, the attacking football won't be missed if we get 1-0 2-0 1-0 2-0 1-0 0-0 2-1 and win trophies, I'd be more than happy with that.

So in other words, become like Chelsea were under "The special one"

  12. At the moment 1-0 is about as much of a gap as we are likely to get if we don't have

    1. a creative midfield

    2. cover in defence

So far the defence seems to be working but it is early days but we need to have cover because as can be seen even this evening, we are so injury-prone. By cover I also include a defensive strategy.

Frimpong is going to be a big player for us this season.
Last night showed us that we still need another CB (Djourou injured, Gibbs Injured, we need cover)
And when Wilshere is missing from the team, we lack creativity in MF, so we still need another creative CM.
Other than that, I think we did pretty well

I was very happy with Song's input last night. He played one hell of a game. Tracked back alot of the time and helped the defence. He looked like a young viera with stupid hair.

Enjoyed the faster more direct attacks, but we were again flaky in defending a runner from the centre circle area.
Lucky to get away with no away goals.

    Will Ryo be available now?..
Also We'll get back Wilshere too, shame about Traore for cover for left back.

I've liked how Wenger has brought on Frimpong with 20 minutes to go in the last two games to try and shut out the game, and play defensively, something he hasn't done in i can't remember how long. Could this be a sign of things to come from Wenger? knowing that we can hold out 1-0 if we need to and bringing on the beast which is Frimpong?
I think it's a good move if that's the case, Frimpong doesn't move from in front of the back four when he plays, and he's bigger physically than Essien, but when he has the ball he can atleast pop it off quickly to get the ball moving to attack.

    DEEEEEEEEEENCH!!!

  18. Ryo should be available when he returns from the land of the rising sun <ok>

I thought he was only supposed to be gone for a few days.....

When we set ourselves up to play counter attacking football, we could play Frimpong and Song, with Ramsey or Wilshere in front of them, and when we break on the counter attack we have Walcott and Ryo out wide, and RVP up top to destroy teams with ridiculous pace and technique. I am a Frimpong fan in case you hadn't noticed, i was gutted when he did his knee before the first game of last season, he would have had his debut alonside Wilshere, and who knows what sort of season he could have had, really hope he establishes himself in the team now, could be useful helping out at right, or left back maybe too for injuries?

Miyaichi is apparently out there sorting out his Visa now that he's got his work permit. Wenger said he should be available for the weekend.
