After 28 games we were 11th & 9 points worse off. As we all know we finished 3rd on 75 pts. We are in a much stronger position than we were then. So lets hope we can get back to where we were & kick it on. http://www.statto.com/football/teams/hull-city/2007-2008/results
It should be fairly easy this year, other than Cardiff I don't really rate the other clubs going for top 2. We had a great March in '08 but still ended up with a low tally in comparison to most sides that finish 3rd.
But back then we had a real backbone to the team from Myhill to Brown to Ashbee to Windass, as well as settled attacking pair. We don't have those crucial ingredients (yet). Need to find some momentum in the next six weeks and self-belief.
Interesting point that. There did seem to be a much more settled side back then, certainly throughout 2008, yet we didn't suffer from this 'fixture congestion' we're all so worried about now. If you think how much chopping & changing we've done this season (and the last 2) it's surprising we've done so well really.
We had Pedersen, Okocha, Campbell and that kid from WBA on loan. Only Campbell was integral, the others came and went. This season half the team is on loan.
Honestly, I've got it in my head that the top 2 won't change now, I just can't see it. Playoff semi against Brighton then final against Watford. Clearly that's just a crock of $hit but hey, that's my gut instinct.
Just like signing Campbell changed our season in 07-08, our season will be defined by whether we bring in a quality striker or not.
http://www.hullcity-mad.co.uk/results_fixtures/2007_2008/hull_city/index.shtml You get the league table throughout the 07/08 season which makes it quite interesting too.
I think so yes. We would have been top of the league or thereabouts in 07/08 with the 50pts we have now
Really, a much stronger squad? At the time the January transfer window looked like we were clearing out the squad, we were selling players from our first team who weren't going to feature the following season like Delaney (who played regularly at left back ahead of Dawson that season) and replacing them with loanees. That's how we ended up with Clement who then got recalled just as he'd settled in, and Walton (replacing Livermore) in the squad nobbling the rest of the team.
IMO, the squad this season is far better than in 07/08 talent wise. However, the 07/08 squad had Messrs. Ashbee and Windass who were the 2 biggest factors in our promotion season. Oh for the pair now. Top 2 finish is well on with this seasons squad. Just need to get back to basics and cut out the BAD ERRORS that are costing us goals and points. Jakupovic howler against the Wendies and Chesters crazy challenge @ Peterboro have cost City 3 points in the last 2 games. But overall both performances were poor by the rest. However,, Fine margins do indeed prove costly.
