He was expected to be in the squad to face Brendan Rodgers’s side on Saturday in a game that could be vital to Rangers’ bid for survival. But Ramsey confirmed that the Englishman has picked up a knock and will not be fit in time for the clash. “Bobby’s struggling which is a blow for us,” he said. “Most of the other players are fit to be involved at Liverpool.” Rio Ferdinand, however, could be set to return as he has recovered from an injury he picked up in training last month. “Rio is training and fingers crossed he’ll be in the squad for the weekend,” Ramsey said. “If he’s fit he’ll be in contention” Ferdinand has not featured for QPR since the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham since March 7, and he is not expected to start against Liverpool. Steven Caulker and Richard Dunne will be preferred in the centre of defence.
Whilst I'd rather have the option of a fit OBZ, playing him does encourage the team to play hoofball to his head, rather than short sharp passes on the ground. This quickly becomes very predictable and, generally, easily defendable. Nevertheless, it's nice to have it as an option against sides who have weaker centre backs.
Emotional, it helps to do a bit of both simultaneously. The only problem is people generally think that you're losing your marbles.
I don't have a problem with playing Zamora. The problem arises when we go one dimensional and keep hoofing the ball up to him. The opposition only have to put a central defender behind him and a defensive midfielder in front of him to nullify him. If instead we used this ploy to our advantage, ie, he takes to players out of the game and use that space to create elsewhere then it's fine. But we don't. We continue the same tactic relentlessly and to no avail. The only time Zamora is effective was getting the ball to Phillips and playing in Zamora down the channel ( v West Brom) and getting a cross in ( v Sunderland. ) He also scored against Everton but can't remember how that came about. ( Pass from Hoilett? ) and he also created a chance for Austin from a chest down, but certainly not enough to base a complete game-plan upon.
But Ramsey does continue with the hoof to zamora. I'm hoping that his absence will make us play differently. It's a complete myth that our players aren't good enough to play a passing game. They need someone to encourage them to do it.
It's when we play both Zamora and Austin that the hoofball dominates. It was Zamora up front against Sunderland when we played our best football of the season (admittedly, Sunderland helped a bit).
Absolutely......our players in the most part are too slow to do anything else..........to be fair to Ramsey he hasnt had the time....
I disagree. Since he took over he has banged on about how important Zamora is to us. As Stan says, it's not so much Zamora that is the problem, but 4-4-2 with Zamora and Austin up front. Hopefully now we can play a different formation.
